People I work with....Argggg!

I work in an office where it is me and 6 guys. I am the only Female (Unfortunately). Well, the guys I work with are VERY "Immature" to put it nicely. I have been here for almost 4 years now, and am getting to the point where I just can't take it anymore.

If they aren't burping or farting, or swearing (Like the "F" word, "A" word, etc.), and when I say swearing, we all swear now and then, but they go on these rolls where every other word is "F' this, that "F-ing" "A" Hole, then they throw in the female "B" word, and so on and so on. They also throw in a few other choice words every now and then, can't really just put the first letter for you to get it, but use your imagination. My boss will only say something to them if I complain, and by then they know it's me that complained, so I hear the wispering and stuff afterwards, and it makes working here VERY uncomfortable. I am like "The Odd Man Out".

I have asked my boss to talk to them about mistakes I find in their work also, and he says "They won't listen to me so I can't do anything". Great boss I have huh?

I work for a pretty big company (Olympus) and I have talked to other girls in other offices across the country, and they say the guys in their offices don't act like this at all. I can't really go above my bosses head, he works in OH, so he doesn't see what goes on here. If I did say something to him, then my boss and everybody else I work with would know I said something and life here would be even worse.

I honestly wish I could find another job, I have gone on a few interviews, but anybody that has interviewed for new jobs lately knows how hard it is, the questions they ask are HARD! And, I get so nervous at interviews and usually end up making an ass of myself.

Ok, well, I will probably add more to this later, but I have to go back to work Man, why can't I hit the lottery :main_rolleyes:

I would not have to ever worry about having too many breeders or hatchlings on my hands. Wouldn't that be the life? Now if I can just find a way to pick those winning numbers.....

What is happening in your workplace is harassment and if your boss will do nothing about it you need to go over his head. Go as far as you have to, including contacting an attorney that specializes in workplace harassment cases.

Noone should feel uncomfortable in their workplace, and you are protected under Federal law.

My first thoughts exactly!!! I worked at the local ambulance service and because of this SAME behavior we had MULTIPLE law suits on a monthly basis. There's no need to put up with it, and if they want to play hard ball that way you could own that company basicly. I'm not one for pressing lawsuits over every little thing, but you're right, GOOD jobs arent easy to come by. I've been unemployed for 2 months now and MIGHt have finally landed a good job, so if they're backing you into a corner where your only comfortable choices are bad ones dont be ashamed to talk to a lawyer, even if you're not after money he can legally adjust things in your work place through the courts or even just by threatining with legal action to where everyone else is looking for new jobs and not you who does the works that needs to be done and doesn't make everyone else feel uncomfortable. Make them feel uncomfortable for a change. After 4 years I'd say enough is enough.

I actually talked to a laywer before because one other guy was saying some really graphic "Sex" type conversations in the office. I also told him about the other stuff. They said that I didn't have anything. No case, they turned me down.

So I complained to HR and my Bosses Boss. He pretty much got a warning and my boss at the time tried to turn it around on me. I let them have an ear full when they did that!

It was like a 4 month process, they ended up just telling me that they did something to him that was bad, probably took away his bonus. But, then a few weeks later, he printed out something that he wasn't supposed to, and they fired him.

I know I shouldn't have to take the crap I go through at work, but, it is easier said than done, when I am the only woman in the whole building. My bosses boss called today and he knew something was wrong, he could tell by my voice, he actually asked me if they were saying things they shouldn't, and I didn't want to say yes or no, because if I were to say yes, then he would say something to my boss and the guys, and life would be even worse for me. And, I didn't want to say No, because well, I didn't. So, I just said, "I am minding my own business, and am staying in my own cubicle" which I know he knows that means "Yes".

Man, I could go on forever talking about the crap that goes on there. If my bosses boss knew everything, he would shit his pants!


My boss now was only a lead tech when they fired the other guy, I thought when he became my boss that things would change, but he is even worse than my old boss.

Alot of women make this huge arguement that they are outcast of society, and alot of activist say that any gal can do any mates job. some cases its true some cases its false. they have the right to get out of the household and work by all means
So in this lovely nation we live in, filled with independence, liberty, and freedom the mothers, sisters, and daughters of our communties have legally and lawfully worked there way up possitions in corperations that for many many years have been ran by males.

women progressively argue that they can do a mans job, to the standard and/or better. And they argue for equal rights. And in doing so they finally get the mans job because of we do live in such a rich and right country. *which i have absolutely no problem with, because everyone is equal* equal pay, equal right, equal workplace, and last but not least equal respect to a mans standard. keep in mind were there is respect there is treatment. there is always a single woman that will do all of the above and argue that all women are equal but then get pissed because bob made an ofensive comment that wasnt exactly 'proper'. Now in my mind if this woman can push for equal rights they certainly can handle bobs penis joke at the lunch table.

like I said I dont know your profession or situation, but you've got to keep in mind that in todays world everyone is equal, equal rights, equal treatment. Not only by the law but by other mens standards.

Damn, I feel for you but do what you feel is right, just get substantiation BEFORE you make a move. Web cams are cool too, especially if in plain sight. After a few days they are all but forgotten and there ya go, evidence a plenty.

but I understand why you're upset, no ones doing anything to make sure that you have a comfortable work environment...I agree with multiple people here, take it above your bosses head...and I do know that in some states tape recording someone without their permission won't hold up in courts, and is in some cases illegal.

My roommate is a cop for the local sheriffs dept and tape recording IS Illegal IF you are a legal authority. Private tape recording is never unlawful unless you use it in unlawful situations, which I'm sure we can all understand what unlawful situations are if we use our imagination

I am by no means a prude, I swear, etc. BUT, it doesn't belong in the office, well, I know we all swear here and there and thats fine, but, they are like little kids, give them an inch and they will go a mile. Our customers are Doctors, Nurses, Directors, and people like that, that call everyday. There will come a day when they will over hear them and the "Shit will hit the fan". I have already had to apologize to a few customers when they would hear one of the guys "Releasing" as he calls it, and will scream really loud and start banging on his desk. Now, remember, we are fixing $20,000+ pieces of Medical Equiptment, when a customer hears that, it kind of worries them.

One time we had a girl that actually swore on the phone while talking to a customer (She's gone now).


My bosses boss is coming down with his boss on the 21st, hopefully they will see what is going on. I honestly don't want to go to court or any of that. I forget if I mentioned it in my first post, but a guy from our corporate office was here this week and heard a few choice things, I hope he mentions it when he gets back to the Home Office.

And, my old boss, who is still with the company but in another division, came by and told me things may be changing. We used to do customer tours of the office, that may start up again, so, things will definitely have to change if we are going to have customers in the office.

Maybe you could suggest to upper management that they could send someone to stop in and then report on their observations. When management does an evaluation people tend to be on their best behavior but if they didn't know they were being evaluated... Anyway, I hope it gets better soon!

The good thng is, when I talked to my bosses boss, his name is Joe, so I will call him that from now on, well, he asked me how everything was yesterday (I swear he reads minds), and I didn't say good or bad, just said I "Stay in my cubicle and mind my business", so he knows something is up.

LMAO, never said it was classy, just said that I'm actually comfortable in those situations....now if they were doing it in front of say, a customer, different cup of tea...but when it's in the privacy of an office where no one who's not part of the company can hear, it wouldn't bother me as much...I'm, however, the kind of person who at least says to my coworkers "if anything I say bothers you, please let me know...I'll turn it down a bit" and I have in the past, cause trust me I've caused a few shocked faces in my short life LOL
