I prefer neither. If I had to choose one, it would be Vermiculite.

My preferred incubation media is orchid moss. :)

Vermiculite, hold more water, but there is a down side, word on the street is that is gets moldy quicker :(

What about a mix of both? I use a mix of both for my ball python eggs and its worked great. Would a mix be ok for gecko eggs.

I used Perlite the last two breeding seasons, and will be giving vermiculite a try this season. I had a BAD hatch rate due to eggs drying out quickly, so hopefully with the vermiculite I won't have that!

I'll just make sure to open it outside ;D

I've tried both. Most recent was perlite. I will admit, vermiculite is better with moisture, but I had a higher mold ratio. I just check the moisture every other day with the perlite.

I've mentioned this to other breeders, but I think you need to take into account different humidity levels and elevation levels depending on location. What works for me here in PA probably won't work the same as someone who uses the exact same product(s) in Texas. I believe that is one of the reasons why incubation mediums work differently in different areas.

O, I agree with that! BUT as an example, I'm in lower PA and use pre-punched delis for incubation and have a wonderful hatch success rate while Pat (Luxurious Leopards) lives in upstate PA and uses delis w/o holes with the same success rate. I have problem w/o holes, he has problems w/ holes.

we used holes in ours but taped over all but about 2 or 3 . also something i noticed was the size of the incubation container and now much incubating medium (how deep) and also how much space of air from above that to the lid. but i guess part of that is ventalation
