Perlite

Ok I have to quick questions about this substrate.

1. Can you use it as a lay box substrate?
2. Where can you buy it?

I've seen it mentioned around the forum mainly as an incubation substrate. But every once and again, I noticed that people sometimes use it as a lay box substrate. I was just wondering if that a normal practice. And I've never seen it or vermiculite in any store, but maybe I wasn't looking hard enough (and I've never gone specifically look for them).

I was really just wondering. Thanks! :D

You can buy vermiculite or perlite at Home Depot, Lowe's, or any plant nursery. I don't use it as a lay substrate, I use peat moss.

Perlite is a lot less dense than the other stuff and when the females start kicking stuff around you're going to have a big mess most likely. You might want to consider something else, although maybe someone who uses perlite in the laybox could share their findings.
