Permently Pregnate Females

The pictures are a bit blurry, so it does make it hard to tell, but it looks like the females are not gravid to me. Also female leo will often times not breed with males that they have been recently introduced to, keep the male in the tank with the females. Let them get used to each other, then they might breed but it does take time, sometimes up to a year before the female will breed with the male. If it is the first time, there is a good chance the eggs are not fertile, and if you did see eggs at one point and no longer see them, it means the female absorbed them back into her body. The body weight sound very healthy, but like you said you would, do change the base of their tank, sand is very dangerous to keep them on.

Looking at those pics it does not look to be gravid, although they are a bit blurry. She may have reabsorbed the eggs.

Light should not be a factor for a nocturnal animal. If you're supplimenting UV lighting for your leo you're likely to cause it more stress than good. Leos do not depend on UV lighting for anything, they depend on heat. Changing lighting around is not logical when dealing with a nocturnal animal. It's only going to cause more problems than answers. The only light it needs is the light that comes thru your window to help with day night cycle and season change.

I'm more inclined to agree with snakegirl here and think the eggs are infertile. It's the only logical explanation thus far.

The reason ive implemented an artificial lighting system is, i am a shift worker, and most all the time the shades are drawn accross the room during the day, and throughout the night i turn on the room lights irregularily ranging anytime between 12-6 in the morning. I didnt notice a problem untill shortly after i stopped using incancecent bulbs as a source of heat. (stopped using UTH's because they frequently break) and installed a ceramic bulb. first i just thought it was a new heat/light thing and she would just gloss over but she didnt change. Since ive put in the lighting shes gained some of her weight back and her fertility spot has returned.

I understand they are nocturnal reptiles, but nocturnal reptiles need to know when the sun is out still, and when it isnt...even if they dont directly benifit from the light.

If hes keeping his by the window though, i agree that it shouldent be having any effect on his geckos

I don't see eggs. I see pictures of a gecko that appears to be ovulating. The entire ordeal of "getting bigger" could have just been the placebo effect (your eyes playing tricks on you because you anticipate something you want)...

If you really want to breed this gecko, leave her in with the male for a week or two. Sometimes it takes a little while to actually get the job done!

okay thank you! My male was housed with them all summer, so why did they just ovulate now? And I'm pretty sure they were breeding, but I just now put him back in with the girls. SOO that leads to my next question....How exactly do I know when they move from ovulating to ACTULLY gravid? I mean.. I guess I really don't know what I'm sopposed to be seeing. What do fertile eggs look like compared to my girls unfertile eggs? Sorry for all the questions but the only vets in my area deal strictly with farm animals, sadly.. So I'm all alone here, and I really need help. Just wanna know what's goin on with me girls! thanks!

hmm thanks! Yeah I'd defently say I have some ovulating girls then...so to my eye the only difference is the gravid ones just more white and defined, but whet does it look like to a more experienced person like you?
