Calling the vet is actually a good idea. It may give some insight as to why the vet did what he did. However, myself as a gecko owner would still be concerned and not too pleased. Merely because I would be considering the pain and irritation it may cause the gecko. Even if something is done for the right reasons, some people find it hard to understand.

I think everyone else has said it all except, regarding the creatures in your charge, never EVER be afraid to be b****y or snotty and holler, "JUST WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING TO MY GECKO!!?"

I think sometimes we put a little too much trust into someone else just because they have a degree (not knocking degrees, either, I'm trying to get a few myself). I can see the value in checking for necrotic tissue, but really, ALL the way down the gecko's back? Why couldn't that have been done with some sterile tweezers and scissors just around the site, if that was the point? I think your daily schedule is just fine, so long as there is a warm dry spot to go to as well as a warm wet one.

p.s. trawl craigslist until you find a cheap second tank. they're sometimes in the free section. If you were local to me, I'd give you my spare today.

Janece,

Thank you for a great reply and for the "offer".....I do have a spare tank but I don't have all of the accessories to go with it. I haven't noticed the geckos bothering eachother. They have their own spots and pretty much leave one another alone. I did order another half log to make a second humid hide because my injured gecko has been hogging it and I am afraid that the other one may start a shed and having a problem because it can't comfortably relax in the humid hide.....I am so worried about my sick little guy....

i just noticed you're in CT.

Let me know if you are near Danbury/Redding or even greenwich. I moved from CT last year and left a TON of tanks ( some even 55 gallons !) in my dads garage. With the cost of shipping them here, i'll never use them again- so if your close you could def. have one.

Thanks for such a great offer! I think I'm okay though. I have a few different tanks because I had fish before I got these little guys. I have a 2.5 gallon, a 10 gallon, a 29 gallon, and now the 20L. So, I have the tanks, I just don't have the extra heater and other necessary supplies for a second tank.

OMFG a "VET" ripped its skin off???? THAT MUCH?! What a f*cking IDIOT. A$$hole!! I dont know what else to say, just WOW

I understand him wanting to take a look under the skin, but he ripped just about a half of its back skin off... It should not have been that much. PLUS it doesnt look at all like it was "around" the area of affliction (that being the neck/head and front left forelimb) if I'm not mistaken.

I have a question. What kind of light do you have on the gecko tank. I have seen shedding issues like this with geckos exposed to too much UV, like a sunburn. I even rehabed 2 from it. They were scarred for 2 to three months in some areas, like the head and along the spine where the skin was thinner. I soaked them regularly, applied polysporn a once or twice a week. If they had skin stuck in their eyes I flushed with saline. i just let them heal the rest of the way. Plenty of moisture, water, food and calcium. Im not saying thats what it is or that this is even the right course of treatment. this is what I did in my situation and had good results.
