I would like to request some pictures to publish in a leopard gecko care article. Most pictures I'll be taking myself, but there are some I can't get right now, that are those of diseases (because thankfully my geckos haven't had most of them) and breeding (I'd have to wait a full year to take them, that suposing that my breeding season is succesful, and my camera isn't that good to show most details such as red veins of fertile eggs or follicles in an ovulating female...).

The ones about diseases would appear in an Spanish online reptile magazine and after that as an article in a Spanish reptile online community. The ones about breeding only in the latter, that is the one that will host the whole care sheet.

Of course I'll credit all people who contribute. I'll mention at least your nicknames in geckoforums, but I'd prefer if you told me your full names and websites so I can credit you properly.

Here is a list of the pictures I would like to get. Of course I don't expect to get all the list, but i would be nice if I could get most of them

Diseases
- Gecko showing signs of MBD.
- Gecko with a superficial injury (from fighting or mating, for example)
- Eggbound female (maybe showing signs of apathy, etc)
- Female with follicular stasis (belly showing several pairs of follicles)
- Gecko showing signs of crypto.
- Necropsy picture from fatty liver
- Necropsy picture from impaction or an X-ray showing impaction
- Gecko that dropped its tail (shortly after dropping, or during regeneration, as I already have pics of a fully regenerated tail).
- Gecko showing mouth rot.
- Gecko showing signs of pneumonia.
- Prolapse.
- Necrosis (this isn't as important because I have pics of tail necrosis myself, but they are low quality, I'd prefer some better ones).
- Shed problems.
- Gecko showing signs of gout

Breeding
- Ovulating female (belly)
- Mating ritual
- Mating itself
- Gravid female (belly)
- Laying female
- Candling infertile egg
- Candling fertile egg
- Hatching

Thanks in advance :)

Surprisingly, we don't have many of the requested breeding pics. Looks like we need to start taking more LOL. Here's a few that we have:

- Diseases: Gecko showing signs of MBD. As you can see, she couldn't walk very well and her legs were bending backwards. Her legs were also bowed out a lot.

- Breeding: Mating itself.

PS - For a lot of the disease pictures, I would just use the search function and search for the disease you're looking for. I know I have seen pics in the past of many of those. Then once you find what you want, you can just PM the person that posted it (may be easier?)

Thanks Jess :main_thumbsup: I feel sorry for your girl with the MBD, how is she doing now?

I thought of looking for the specific pics and contacting the person who took them, and I may do it later, but right now I don't have much free time. At the magazine they want to have everything settled by December 15th, and I cannot start searching and asking people right now, so I though that I'd get all the pictures I could like this and ask for the rest later :)

Thanks Sandra, she is actually doing much better now, we got liquid calcium for her and gave her 1 ml per day for 3-4 weeks. We now give it to her every other day or so, she is walking normally and is starting to develop those fatty calcium pockets behind the arms :main_thumbsup: Here is a picture of her that was taken two days ago:

Good luck with getting all of the pics that you need!

I have never seen all those pics in one article, or even book before!

Best of luck finding them, it would sure make a heck of a gecko care
article if you could include all that! :)

I had a female (Nana) with follicular stasis; but I don't have the "before" belly pic, I only have taken pictures after her surgery:

1. This are the follicles that are taken out:
fol_stasis01.jpg

2. Her belly stitched up:
(I have an underside pic, but its quite blurry and VERY unpleasant to look at, so a side view is attached)
fol_stasis02.jpg

3. Healed pretty well:
fol_stasis03.jpg

Then I have Lemsip, who had his tail amputated:
1. The wound being stitched up:
Lemsiptail1.jpg

2. The scab fell off along with the stitches:
Lemsiptail2.jpg

3. Growing back a small stub:

4. Done growing:

Please let me know if any of these pics are useful to you, I can send you a slightly larger version. :)

Wow, so many great pics in just one day, thanks everybody!

Jess, she looks good. Good luck with her :)

lol Stanley, I tend to turn everything I write into mini-online-books. A friend of mine asked me to revise the leopard gecko caresheet in his website, and I saw that it was very outdated, so I decided to rewrite it almost enterely. Without any pics, it is already 30 pages long and that without having revised the breeding part (that I don't think I'll change too much since I don't have almost any experience breeding...). My last epic win was a 80 pages long leopard gecko morph dossier which took me two years. I don't seem to ever learn.

Also, books can't count on getting their resources from the community so easily since they make profit from it. I'd personally wouldn't mind if someone used my pics or texts in a non-free medium but many people do. Since this is free for everyone I hope I can get a good compilation of pics!

Jake, I'm sorry about your little one :( I know asking pics from diseases may be hard on some people or bring bad memories, but I think it is important for everyone to see how a gecko should NOT look like... Thank you very much for your contributions, those are some great shots. I've been looking through your photobucket a bit and there are some interesting pics. I planned to take all the husbandry ones myself but I may ask you a few later :)

Bonnie, I didn't expect to get a picture of a follicle, it is very interesting!! It's a pity that you don't have the pre-surgery pics. I will use the follicle one for sure, and maybe the post-surgery ones, specially if I don't get any pics of eggbound females since the procedure is the same for both illnesses...

I think I will use the first one from Lemzip so people see how an amputation surgery looks like (although as you know the one of my gecko didn't end up like that, I think I'll just expose both cases). I remember there was a pic of Lemzip when his tail started becoming infected, can I use it?

The size of the pics is enough as it is, don't worry ;)

Edgar, thank you very much for both pics. That hatching picture is so cute, I'll use it for sure :smitten: The other one is a bit blurry, I'd prefer one where the veins can be seen clearly but I may use it if I can't get anything better.

Thanks again, everyone!

Here are pics of geckos with:

1.) severe MBD
2.) emaciated gecko from aflatoxic poisoning from contaminated crickets
3.) gecko with broken leg and foot bitten off by another gecko
4.) facial abrasion from bad shed
5.) egg binding where the eggs ruptured through the abdominal wall
