Pink belly sign of impending shed?

Hey all

My Leo has gone off food and has a pink belly, is this a sign that a shed is due to start shortly?

My ball pythons go off feed and have pink bellies just when they enter their shed cycle, I'm assuming this is the same for Leos.

Can someone please confirm....

Thanks a bunch

Is it a female? Is it totally pink or is there just one area that's pink? Sounds like she might be ovulating, if it is a female. If it's male, then it's possible your temps are too high. Geckos usually get really white and dull before they shed. A picture would help us.

Hey Jordan

I am not sure if it is female or male, it is only about 2 months old.

Temps on the cool side are 26/7C and the hot side 30/1C, there is a hide on the cool side and a hide+humid hide on the warm side. Fresh water available, food has consisted of 95% mealworms 5% crickets. Humidity ranges from 45-65%

Here are some pics of the belly, taken with flash and without flash.

What raised my concern is the apparent lack of appetite... it was eating very well untill 2 days ago......

Well, actually that belly appears normal to me. However your warm side, after I did the conversions, is a little cool for my particular liking. I generally go for about 32-33 degrees celcius on the hot side, and about 27-28 degrees celcius on the cool side. That may be why your little gecko hasn't been eating. Also, it's getting to be winter, and i'm not sure where you are in the world, but it's pretty darn cool here in Florida, and most of my geckos have significantly slowed down in eating.

I recommend you vary the diet as much as possible, as well as bumping up the temps a little bit on the hot side. 2 days isn't that big of a deal, especially during the winter. I hope I could help!

Hey Jordan

Thanks for the reply

I'm in South Africa, so we are in the middle of summer here at the moment.

I'll push up the warm side of the cage a few degrees. This Leo is kept in my snake room room where the ambient temps are kept at about 26/7C, so I won't adjust that for now.

I'll also look at some supplemental prey other than mealworms....

Thanks again....
