lol. This is because I really don't know the answer... and I have searched. So, I recently obtained a male and female... well, the female lost her tail from shipping. It is healing up a little bit, but not completely. She is also gravid, when COULD I put her in with the male? Should I just wait until the tail grows back completely? Or could I put her in with him now? Thanks for the input, and this is because I genuinely don't know the answer.

If you got them from different places, quarantine them for at least a month. If you got them from the same place, why don't you give the female 2 weeks to a month to recover from the trauma, start eating and put on some weight and then introduce her.

Yeah, I got them from the same place. It has actually been about two weeks and she is eating like a horse. I will wait another couple of weeks to see how she progresses. Thanks for the input. I can't wait to see what babies "they" put out.

just remember she will lose alot of weight and nutrients after laying eggs so already having lost her tail that has taken alot of her stored fat and nutrients, so load her up on calcium dusted food, vitamins ect and as much as she will eat. and do that after she lays her 1st clutch as well. But I agree a month or so before introducing them together again let her heal up. Do you have pictures of your pair up anywhere here yet ? would love to see them :D

I would at least let the tail heal completely. Breeding and egg laying is stressful and takes a lot of nutrients from their bodies. If the body has to split nutrients between healing and producing eggs you may get a sick mom or sick eggs. Either way, it would have been worth waiting until she's 100% healthy.

If she's gravid, there really isn't any reason to pair her again unless she's either (1.) laid three clutches, or (2.) looks as if she's done laying and isn't producing any more eggs. I'd say wait out the approximate six to eight weeks, give the tail time to heal, and then pair her. At least that's the route I'd take. :main_yes:

Ahhhh, sorry, I guess I meant to put ovulating... not gravid. Again, I appreciate the "not flaming", it totally skipped my mind how much it takes out of the females. I was thinking more along the lines of if she has no tail to wave if she doesn't want to be mated, or she has no tail to lower to show she is submissive, along those lines. I just completely forgot about how much is takes out of them. Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it!!!
