Hello,
I have a common house gecko that has been stranded in my room for about a month. This is the most illusive little fellow and I can't catch him/her to put outside so it can get on with its life and have a proper diet. I haven't sprayed for ants hoping they would be a good nutritional source and have been putting out a bottle cap of water in the window sill. Now I have a massive amount of ants taking over and today I noticed that the gecko is looking skinny. Any ideas of what I should feed it. I thought of baby crickets, but I am concerned that they will breed if the lizard doesn't eat them in time. I would really appreciate any suggestions of what and when to feed and hydrate my new roomate. Also, I would love to hear any ideas how to create a habitat for him in my window sill. Thanks! Tina in South Florida :)

You could try spraying around the window so it can lick the drops. If you want to try to get it out, consider using a fish net.

Thanks Aliza. I took your advice and misted the screen. As for catching it, I have tried everything. I have never met a lizard that I couldn't catch. This lizard isn't going anywhere so I figure that I might as well hook it up with some comfortable amenities and a balanced diet. :)

You could try putting food and water and hiding places in an enclosure and leave it open so it can go in then you might be able to trap it in there... Maybe a dish of tiny mealworms (sometimes Petco has "mini" mealworms that I use for my really small geckos).

Thank you Star. I already went to the pet store and bought some millworms and a water dish and "Shy" has eaten 2-3 per night x3 nights. I don't mind if the lizard stays, I just want to make sure it has a good life.... and I'm a little concerned about where all its poop is going to go. If you can think of any other things that I need to do, please let me know. Thanks again :)

Sorry, Im so late to comment. Have had a busy week, But yeah looks you have been given good advice ;) I would recommend the worms as well, and don't use the crickets as they are way to big for common house geckos. If you have a cat I would watch out, I used to save those little guys but they would find there way back inside and fall victim to my cat :/

Hi Josh, I haven't seen the lizard since my original post, but I know it is still around. I put 3 medium millworms in a dish every other night and I can hear it attacking them. It also chirps from time to time. I'm pretty sure it's a girl, because I have found 8 babies since my original post. I would really appreciate any advice that you or anyone may have... ie, supplements, etc. Thanks again, tina :)

Wow thats Crazy! 8 Babies :D Hahahaha, Good luck finding her. What did you do with all the other babies? By the way you should leave out some Calcium powder, and a small bottle cap full of water.

I'm so sorry to hear about your little buddies. I know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet. I lost my lovebir, Sweetie Pi, 4 years ago and I still catch myself looking for he often. I've been nursing my fighter fish, Swim Shady, back to health for the past week, and gladly I think he's going to make it. :) As for the gecko babies, they have been returned to nature (in my back yard). Shy now has a water dish with her name engraved on it.... Just kidding! But seriously, I did get her a proper reptile water dish at the pet store. I'm glad you mentioned calcium. I haven't been able to get back out to the store, so I grinded up some eggshells and sprinkled a small amount on the worms. I'm going to try and pick some up again. Thanks for all the info! -)
