I got a leo about 2 months ago from a friend who's kid diddnt want to take care of it any more, she's 4 years old.
Since i got her she has been getting progresevly skinnier, now she is very lethargic and will barely open her eyes...even when picked up. Her head is sunken in behind her eyes/in front of her ears. Tail is very skinny. I have never seen her eat,but the crickets disapear and she poops alot. Her poop has always been green/brown since we got her.
What can i do for her..at the moment we are giving her water and mashed up crickets/worms/calcium mix with an eye dropper. Her tank is a 20 gallon with calcisand, whice the whole thing was given to me with her,i guess its the same substare she has always been in. I clean the tank regularly and give fresh water every day.
I tried going through other posts on here and it seems like everyones advise is to go to the vet (not like the fish sites) I talked to the vet today on the phone...I cannot afford it,i just paid a double mortgage and all the bills,my checking is down to nothing and the vet wont allow payments or billing. So im on my own to try to get her better.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what i can do?

Oh, Man that poor gecko. I don't know what I would do really. I'm almost 100% sure that she has parasites, and will not make it without medication. In my opinion the kindest thing you could do for her, is to humanly euthanize her. Just don't make her suffer any longer. If you have to hard of a time coping with euthanizing her, then you can keep trying what you are trying, but if she has been getting worse, and worse since you have had her, euthanizing her would be the course of action I would take.

Please though, wait for somebody else to respond. They might know something that I don’t, that could help you save her life.

Wow, it looks really bad. I agree with Nicholas, if she's having poop like that then there's probably a parasite issue. That can only be helped by being properly diagnosed by a vet and medication. Try Marcia's slurry recipe and try to scrape up money for the vet pronto. The slurry recipe is in a sticky at the top of this section.

Poor thing!

I'm going to agree with the others in guessing that she has parasites, and needs some medication.

In the meantime, dump the sand and use paper towels in her tank instead. Change them often, and keep the tank as clean as possible.

Check her warm side substrate temps and make sure that they are in the right range (88-92 is a good place to start) Also, make sure that you are using an accurate thermometer, such as a digital with a probe, to measure your temps.

I am so sad for her and hope she is not suffering. Yeah, the right thing is to try Marcia's slurry, but if her health doesn't improve, there may be some tough decisions ahead.

This gecko is in EXTREMELY bad condition, and I'm sorry to say is most likely beyond help. The best thing you can do for it at this time is to make sure it has a warm spot around 90 degrees, and gets OFF the particulate substrate. If it will take the slurry, make sure you just allow it to lick and do not force feed it... this willonly stress it out more.

When they are this lethargic and their eyes are starting to sink in, there is usually very little hope to rehabilitate it.... but I have seen miracles happen. I hope for the best for you and this poor unfortunate gecko...

Its a shame that vets will not allow you to make payments or be billed at a later date like the doctor does if you dont have the money up front..they should be in it more for the animals sake, not for the pay. I got my paycheck today too..to late. I only had her for 2 months, but i miss her horribly.

Well i diddnt really know anything was wrong with her when i got her,i have had alot of reptiles in the past, but never a leo. I diddnt know she was supposed to be alot fatter,i thought she was supposed to be alittle fatter..not alot. And i asked a friend who has them about her sleeping all the time and she said it was normal, that they were nocturnal...so its partially my fault i wasnt aware of the wrning signs to begin with.

Sorry to hear that BLEND708 - I am having the same problem with a gecko I "rescued" from a pet shop last week. Been to the vets, he said 50-50 chance on him surviving, have to get at least 3 stool samples to be tested for parasites (on 2 at the moment so fingers crossed), going to cost me £70 just to be tested (but the vets were really good and said I can pay it when I get paid in 2 weeks :) which is some good news). He ate 2 wax worms day before yesterday and I put another one in yesterday but was still there this morning when I went work. A cricket got into his tank (only a small) and after going for it a couple times, gave up and went to sleep :( Going to get a blender today and try blending his food up. Hopefully this will work until I can get him tested :)
