i've asked this already, but nobody is giving me an answer!

i am really freaking out, my female gecko has always been a great eater, and she just layed eggs on sunday. she refused food the entire 2 weeks she had eggs, and now she's layed them and she STILL won't eat. it's been 2 days after the egg laying, and i've tried a pinkie, wax worms, supers, and phoenix worms. tomorrow i'm going to try crickets but i doubt she would pick them over wax worms and supers.

i'm just really scared because everything i've read said the female should be really hungry and shoud start eating immediately after laying eggs, and i know she needs calcium and nutrients to make her next clutch.

please, someone tell me if this is normal or not???? :(

I would just leave a dish of meal worms in there with a a dish full of cal. do you have her in a tank or rack? may be she is stressed is she with other geckos ? I would just wait and see what she does maybe put her in her own tank or bin for a while she will most likely eat when you are not looking but I would guess that she is drinking cause I know that she cant go that long with out water is this the geckos frist year of breeding ? just leave worms in there 24/7 and wait it out but if you have space seperate her see if that helps if you need more just pm one of the bigger breeders they are always cool with questions and helpful info thats what I have done and still do good luck with her thx

my high temp is always between 90-93, and yes she is with another gecko but she has been for her entire life, and once we tried to separate them but neither of them would eat for the time they were separated. so that we know will not work. this is not her first time breeding, the lady we got her from said she has laid eggs in the past years, although this is the first time in my care. she is drinking, i saw her drink and lick her calcium.

with the mealworm thing, they don't ever eat out of the bowls because they don't know how, i always hand feed. so i don't think that will work either

thanks...does anyone have any other ideas?

Some females just don't eat much while they're laying. Unless she starts losing dangerous amounts of weight try not to freak out too much. Just keep offering food, hopefully she'll eat enough after a while to keep some weight on.

hmm, okay i'll raise the temps! and yes, i've tried wax worms. i've tried just about every food there is available to me, and nothing.

i don't have a scale, but i don't think she's losing TOO much weight. she does look a lot skinnier then before though, but she's not what you would call actually "skinny"...yet.

i'll try the temps and see what happens. thanks

Normally, after a female lays eggs she is ravenous. It concerns me that she is not eating. She needs nutrition and calcium at this time, especially if another clutch is developing in her oviducts. If raising the temperature does not help, I would recommend getting her on my slurry and possibly a trip to the vet.

What are you feeding your mealworms??? Sometimes females that have been bred and do not have sufficient nutrients will get so stressed they will refuse food. I would also think about taking the other female out of the cage. Even though they may have gotten along before, it may be to stressful for the female now that she is gravid.

All great advice here. I too would single her out, get warm side temps to 96/97 and keep offering food. Crickets stimulate the feeding response far more than mealworm, so maybe try a couple this coming weekend if she doesn't resume feeding.
