Well my daughter did a number on her hand last month and we have been seeing a hand surgeon because it hasn't been improving. Well yesterday he decided that she needed surgery to see why it wasn't improving. Today she had surgery and it was found that the tendon in her middle finger was severed. He repaired it and now she's got a cast for 4-6 weeks as well as the finger splinted underneath the cast. Surprisingly she is handling it well. Hopefully the time will fly and she'll have it off soon. Here's some pics of her and her APBT pup, Q-tip, showing off her cast.

Yeah, the cast doesn't bother her one bit. It was the catheter that was in her other hand that bugged the heck out of her. She kept screaming to take it out when she woke up. They gave her a sedative before they put it in, so she had no problem putting it in. She was excited when they gave her Jell-O and apple juice afterwards. Now she is cranky because she can't play her computer games. Hopefully she will learn to become ambidextrous quickly.

Well she had a rough night and screamed for most of the night. I winded up sleeping on the couch in case she needed anything. She hates the tylenol with codeine. Hopefully tonight will be better.

Awwwwww, poor little sweetheart! I suppose she is right-handed, too. I hope the finger heals well, and she is back to playing on the computer in no time!

Poor thing! It's a good thing kids are so resilient, I'm sure she'll figure out a way to play one handed computer games in no time. Is there not something beside Tylenol with codeine that they can giver her? I hate that stuff too, it makes me feel worse.

Yeah she's a rightie. I can give her regular tylenol. She's not even complaining about pain right now. Just wants to play her games. Already clocked Dean in the eye with her cast. He was less than pleased on that one. I'm actually going into work later tomorrow because I don't want my in-laws to have to go through her screaming again tonight. Hopefully it won't happen again.

I feel your pain and know what she's going through. My son broke his arm when he fell off his bunkbed when he was 2 years old. He felt crappy the first couple of days but almost forgot he had a cast the last 3 weeks. Time flew by quickly for us though. He actually cried when the Doctors took the cast off. He bent his arm for the first time in about a month and it kind of freaked him out.

She'll get used to it and time will hopefully fly for you as well. Hope she feels better.:D

I remember when I broke my arm (both times) when I was little. I feel for her... sucks not being about to use it. Luckily she's young and it'll heal pretty quick.

Dumb question, which type of markers are good to decorate her cast with? I had regular crayola markers and they came off all over her face!!! After we were done laughing, we cleaned her up. Would Sharpie markers be better?
She wants to decorate it so bad.

I cut my left hand badly with a chainsaw 15-16 years ago(500+ stitches). They fixed 2 CUT tendons, severed nerves, veins, bones and so on and you guessed it... left handed ;)

My hand works great, but my pinky lost alot of tendon and doesn't fully straighten. I assure you your daughter will be good as new because it's a simple procedure these days.

Wasn't trying to hijack the thread, just let you know that 15 years ago they could fix THAT, so don't worry :main_thumbsup:

Chainsaw hit a piece of rebar inside a tree and threw me back 5 feet and was going for my head. I put my hand up .... long story, but that's the short version.

Wow, that just makes my blood run cold on how close your time came. I don't care about you adding your story. I just couldn't believe the kind of accident you had and how lucky you were. I actually had an old client that did have the chainsaw band break and wrap around his neck when he was cutting some limbs and hit something. The only reason he didn't bleed to death was that his wife was sick and decided to skip church that day and looked out the window the moment it happened. She claimed that she kept getting this urge to look out the window. You should see the scar he has now from that.

A cut from a broken chain I have never heard of honestly and I have broken many chains in 20+ years. If you come to Hamburg in a few weeks I am sharing a table. I can tell you the long version and you can check out my neat scars ;) I can write a novel on getting hurt doing treework, but I can't think of too many jobs that are that fun and rewarding.
