Hi,

We has a power outage today and as of yet I had not been able to get some sort of back up power for my incubators. So the power was out for about 2 hours today and when it came back on the incubators had gone down on the geckos from 86.5 to 72 degrees and on the beardies from 83.5 to 72 as well. So I have spents all morning getting them back up to temp and now they are. So I guess the questions is: Will I lose my eggs? I know there is a certain fatal temp but can they handle the temp going down for 2 hours and then working its way back up without losing any eggs?

Thanks guys!!

I don't know what to tell you but I think there's someone else on the forum who had the same thing happen with mixed results. I had a run of problems about 2 weeks ago with dead hatchlings that may (not sure though) be traced to a power outage where the incubator was only low in heat for about 15 minutes. There are backups you can get that will switch to battery power if the electricity goes out. When we lost our power, I called a friend a few blocks away who did have power and brought the incubator over there (that's when there was the brief period of low temps). I hope things work out OK.

You may had lost them, you may had not. 2 hours with the power off is a long time, but it depends on when in that two hour period did the temperature drop to 72. I really don't think that you lost them, because 72 isn't really cold, but a little warm. And for most reptiles and eggs to die, they totally have to be forgotten about an left unwarm for quite a while. Just candle them and watch the development over time. Then you will find out.

I had a power failure recently and my incubator was by the air conditioner, because it is out the way of clumsy mom, brother, and crazy dog. I found some air activated hand warmers and put them in my incubator. The temp. stayed at a constant 90 degrees for over an hour, then I went away for 20 minutes, because my mom needed me, came back, and it was 115 degrees. And I freaked and let some cold air in. I thought I lost my leo eggs, but as far as I know, they are still alive, due to growth and more development.

Thanks for your help, I guess its a wait and see. Hopefully I was able to get them back up on time, I so do not want to lose my first clutches! I will be going out to get back up power soon!! It was a freak power failure too. The hydro cut power to a whole bunch of grids today because of an explosion! I guess my grid was apart of that. Oh well hopefully they stayed warm enough that I didnt really affect them.

Thanks again, if anyone else has power failure on incubator stories please post those too I would like to know how the eggs were as well.

Same thing happened to me. It was like an explosion outside and the power in the neighborhood was out. I think an bird or something ran into it, like one had a few other times before. I was freaking out and my brother, I almost slapped, saying they are just eggs, I can get other eggs. And I said that you are just human, so if something happens to you, I can replace you. Insensitive to animals people.

We had a 5 hour power outage back in late February. I only had 1 egg in the incubater at the time. The temp dropped to 68. I was sure the egg would die but people told me to keep incubating it and it hatched out a perfectly normal little tremper albino. No defects at all. I would keep incubating and hope for the best. You just never know. Best of luck. I hope your babies all hatch ok.

Of course, so far they are still looking plump and there is still a pink background when I shine a flashlight over them. Thats a good sign so far! Im just keeping my fingers crossed!
