just curious as probably next season I would like to start breeding leos but I was wondering how do you price..What attributes influence your prices? I see some tangs for 25 and others for 300..guess thats quite a difference lol and on Morhps..how can you tell one from another if colors are similar especially if you are not %100 percent sure of parents morph say as in a petstore bought gecko..just curious wanna learn all I can before i even get close to breeding lol thanks in advance for replies

My question is why would you breed animals whose morph you aren't sure of? Start with good stock!

Best I can help is….

Learn the morphs www.leopardgeckowiki.com

Look at different breeders available page and see what is different in the $50 gecko and the $1000 gecko (of the same morph of course). There are many good breeders at the top of the page.

Learn some basic genetics.
http://www.vmsherp.com/LCGenetics101.htm (on the left side of the page it goes through genetics 101 - 601)

I would not breed anything you don’t know the genetics of. Buy some cheaper animals that you know the genetics of and go from there. Patternless, Albinos and Blizzards to name a few.

Basically read read read read read read read.

Here's how I do it:

My personal philosophy is to price geckos so that most people can afford them but so that I am not undercutting the market. This is one reason that I don't buy the new morphs when they come out and are expensive (besides the fact that I can't spend that much money) so that I don't have to sell for very high prices. I have managed to sell out for 4 years without shipping, so I'm also looking to supply locally.

Since I sell most of my leos at shows, I record the prices and conditions of leos being sold at shows when I am able to go. I also pay attention to classifieds here and on kingsnake to get a sense of how much people are charging for geckos that look similar to mine and people who are at a production level similar to mine.

That said, my geckos have generally sold for $25-45. At the lower end of the spectrum are my "plainest" geckos, both in terms of genetics and appearance. Examples of these would be hypo tangs or high yellows, albino hets, albinos and probably the Mack snows that end up with a dirty yellow, mustardy look.

The high end of my price list so far are the Mack super snows which I sell for $45.

In the middle are hybinos, stripes, "homemade" aptors and anything else that looks unusually nice. Last season I was initially selling all the Mack snows for $40 but ended up dropping the price on the drab ones and keeping the price on several that remained white and orange banded.

I hope this is helpful. It has worked for me so far.
