OK, so I picked up Puzzle this evening after our week in New Orleans. I was so happy to see him!!

He was eating well for Mike the week I was gone. When I got him there was a bunch of Calcium Plus on his substrate so I took it all out when he got home and cleaned that up, and washed his hides and water dish and put fresh substrate in his moist hide and gave him fresh water.

Apparently when Mike ran out of the small crickets I have been feeding him, he went to get more and the store only had large crickets and superworms. So he got some of each and Puzzle was eating these huge crickets and these giant ass superworms! Both of the feeders are like bigger than his head.

My question is this: should I be feeding him feeders this big? I gave him one superworm, and he ate it. Then I put a cricket in there and he ran away from it. It seemed way too big for him, but I dunno. Mike said he was eating them.... :main_huh: Maybe he was just stressed from the drive home and me taking everything out of his cage to clean it and decided one superworm was enough.

Are bigger feeders going to be harder for him to digest? I'm just wondering if I should keep getting these big ones or switch back to the smaller ones. He's still a juvie at about 4 months and I dunno if he's ready for ginormous crickets yet. :main_huh:

As long as the temps are fine they can digest anything.

I think Gregg M?? may have said this quote somewhere in another thread..

Something along the lines of..Do you really think in the wild a gecko is going to pass up a food item because, "oh hey thats bigger then the space between my eyes, can't eat that!" If they can over power it, they are going to eat it.

Seems pretty logical. And he may just be full and didn't want the cricket. Sometimes my leo doesn't eat for a day or two after eating giant meal worms.

You can feed both, my 3-4 month old Leo gets small crickets, giant meal worms, and some larger crickets, although I save the real big crickets for my larger critters.

i would say if he eats it.. and everything is going fine, i wouldnt worry too much about size... the above logic does make sence... IMO... i wouldnt be worried about only eating 1 super... thats a pretty good meal for a lil guy...i think you would be all set to keep on keeping on... unless you see an issue i wouldnt bother switching em back... but thats just me... *shrug*

When I brought home 500 superworms last month (end of Nov) my then-11 gram leopard ate 2 of them. End to end they were longer than she was. She's still fine and up to 17 grams after a steady diet of superworms.

if he's eating them without any problems then I think it's ok to feed them that particular feeder. Since the feeders are bigger than the ones you've been using it will fell him up quicker so don't be worried if he seems to be eating less because in reality he isn't.

sounds like its time for the lil dude to move up in cricket size.

remember, he wont eat nearly as many of the big ones as he does the small ones.

OK, thanks guys! He's been eating 3 big crickets every day. The superworms were freaking me out so I got rid of them LOL

How the hell he fits 3 of those ginormous things in his tummy is beyond me. But he's up to almost 13 grams!!!
