I just use eco earth mainly because I didn't have any sphagnum moss when I set up the cage. I have sphagnum in all my other planted tanks, which I've had set up for up to 5 years including crestie, day geckos and fat tails. No one's had any problems.

We use eco earth in all our enclosures and added sphagnum moss in it for our breeding females and they seem to really enjoy it. One female carries all the moss over to a corner of her cage to cover her eggs up when she is done laying, so cute!

My girls now have it in their enclosure all the time and I'll soon be adding it to everyone else's enclosures here in the near future. Since the girls like it, why not the boys.

That's interesting. How hard to you find it to find eggs? I have my gargs on PT at the moment since they're in quarantine and have lay boxes with coir in with the girls since some of them may be gravid(I suspect one is, she's got a huge belly on her) but was considering switching them to full coir once they're through quarantine. My issue with using it with cresties is that the females lay all over the place and finding eggs often means digging up most of the enclosure floor, something disruptive to the animals. So I use layboxes. Do gargs have more of a tendency to lay in specific areas? I know Uroplatus like leaf litter, just wondering if gargs are somewhat similar.

My gargs refused to use lay boxes so I increase the eco earth up to 3" in their inclosures so they could choose their own spots to lay. Each girl has a specific spot within their enclosure they like best and have laid in the exact same spot all season. My girls usually start to dig about 24-48 hours prior to laying so I know exactly when to check for their eggs. Then the one females will pile all the moss ontop and guards the area. Oh, my girls are very noisy diggers kicking dirt up all over the place.

Nah thats easier i think if there just on paper towel. Damp paper towel. Makes it less of a worry when i comes to feeding crickets. Dont gotta worry about impaction. Nothing wrong with it not so great when it comes to humidity but a spray bottle will fix that:main_thumbsup: i have my baby on cocofiber then a paper towel over it keeps humidity and i dont have to worry TO much when i feed crickets
