It is a terrible day indeed. At 5:00 this morning I opened my eyes rolled over looked at the TV which had been on overnite. Coincidently the tv was on fox news and no sooner a big news flash interrupted the current broadcast. It read Steve Irwin "crocodile hunter" was killed by a stingray. He was stung in the heart and died minutes after emergency helicopter EMT's arrived. I was so saddened I just got up and went to work... :bigcry:
What an inspiration he was and my blessings go out to his family and friends!!

I heard about it this morning. I didn't believe it at first but it really had happened. Its so sad, he did so much for the zoological community, every animal not just herps... This sucks so bad. And his family... he had two young kids who adored him... R.I.P. dude... you truly were a great guy. :(

This is truly a loss to humanity. He was such a great guy, not only was he a great person animal wise, but look at how he loved his family. I feel so bad for his family, especially Bindi, I was watching the interviws from him on Animal PLanet, and they interview her (These were old interviews), and she came out and said "I Love My Dad" and that was enough to bring tears to my eyes.

I feel so bad for his whole family. He was a real Stand Up guy.

Steve Irwin was a pioneer in the herp world, and opened many doors that would otherwise have remained closed by ignorance. God's creatures where his life, and so ended his life. A sting ray's sting into the heart was more than a freak accident... it simply was his time to leave this earth. Imagine all the situations that put his very life in jeopardy, and in one split moment fate took it's turn and claimed him.

I believe all things happen for a reason, and our little pea-brains cannot comprehend our own mortality in such a way. May all our prayers and God's loving arms wrap around Terri and their children, that they may find peace in knowing that Steve died doing what his passion drew him to. I can only hope to be called to Heaven pursuing my dreams...

Nice reply Marcia.

I wonder what the ramifications will be with his cowboy style of nature shows. Even though I appreciated what he did - he did put himelf in a lot of unnecessary danger - (in my opinion).

That aside - it's a very sad day. He brought a lot of good press to herps and nature in general.

I hope Terri and the children get a lot of support.

I loved watching his shows, and now to think that he'll never be filming anymore. This is horrible. R.I.P. Steve.

I heard about his death last night around 10pm but was out of town and unable to post. I am deeply saddened by the loss of Steve. My wife and I have been planning a trip to the Australia Zoo for next year in hopes that we could see him and hopefully meet him.
I can remember when he 1st came on the air. I had only house geckos at the time. He inspired me to learn more about reptiles and I eventually started keeping more (and more!). Without his show and his amazing zeal for reptiles I probably would have lost interest in them years ago. Without Steve Irwin I don't believe the reptile world would be as excepted nor as large as it is today. Steve brought something few people could bring and that was his enthusiam and expertise while making it fun to learn about reptiles. Even though I am no longer "in the trade" I had great experiences and I still love reptiles and have high interests in them, I owe most of that to Steve Irwin.

May he Rest in Peace.

That sums it up perfectly, it was just his time and he died doing what he was born to do, spreading conservationism, and the worlds a better place because of him, now hopefully someone will carry on his works.

Steve

I absolutely loved watching his show. He was awesome and brought a lot of people that I know personally to understand reptiles and other herps much more than they ever would have without him. He was truly inspirational and I hope one day someone half as great will come along and do some of the radical things he did. He was the person that inspired me to want to keep snakes, geckos, iguanas, and all the other crazy herps I have had over time. I will truly miss him and things will never be the same. He deserves to go down greatly in history for the brave things he has done. He will be missed by myself and my boyfriend. :main_no:

When I read that he had passed away on Monday i didn't believe it. I hope his son and daughter grow up just like him so his legend will be carried on. Sad thing is I had a vacation planned for this summer for my wife and i to go to Austalia and to visit his zoo and hopefully meet him.
