Sorry for all the question ... Just starting out as a project with my kids :)

If I use 15qt ... What size plastic container so you recommend ... Looks like you use a sandwhich size one ... Do you know what size it is and would it be to large in a 15qt tub? Just concerned their is not enough room in a 15qt for an adult with all that stuff?

:(

This is what I use for my adult 27 q rubbermaid. its plenty of room for them.

Do you only provide one dry hide? No moist hide? So you think the 15qt for a single adult is to small?

I do have a moist hide for them not pictured I use the small plastic container that you can buy pre sliced ham in I cut a hole in the top and that works great. a 15 q would be perfect for a baby.

So it sounds like most folks keep their Single Breeder Geckos (Large enough to breed with) in a 28qt or larger Tub and keep multi Babies/Juvies (of the same size) in 15qt Tubs ... I am just trying to figure out how many Tubs and what size to get to house 6 total Females and 1 Male. If I have this right ... I will need seven 28qt Tubs or larger to house each Breeder Gecko itself? Then a few 15 qt tubs after we get some babies going.

Keep in mind I am doing this for fun ... Have no intent to make any business of it ... Just having fun with the kids :)

Yes I keep all mine in there own container. And put them together when I am ready to breed them. I have a heat pad under each one for now until I biuld a rack then I will be using heat tape.

How many adult breeders do you have ... 28qt tubs take up a lot of space ... that will be a big rack :)

I use:
6 qt. Sterilite shoeboxes for hatchlings
16 qt. Sterilite tubs for sub-adults and smaller-medium sized males
27 qt. Sterilite tubs for females (being as I put the males in w/ females when I introduce for breeding, so I leave enough room for 2 in the female tubs ;)) and large or Giant males

It does end up taking up quite a bit of space. And you need to keep in mind that you will need lots of extra space for hatchlings. ;) Hatchlings add up fast and it's easy to run out of room quickly!

I use 12 qt for any single geckos 40 grams - 75 grams then 16 qt for 75-100+ grams.

I use 32 qt bins for breeding groups. I have never had any problems with my tub size.

I house babys in 6 qts would never even consider housing them in 15 qts that would be over kill imo, and to big for a gecko and I would worry about them finding there food.

So what do you think of this as a starter breeding setup (just for fun with my kids not as a business).

The 6qts tubs would be for hatchlings, 15qt tubs would be used for 1 adult breeder male or for multi unsexed juvies as they grow out and can be sexed (under 50g), one 40qt tub would be used as a community adult female tub (1-5 adult females) ... The other 40qt is to be used as a breeding tub to move an ovulating female into with a male (once the male has done his job he would be moved back to his 15qt leaving the female to lay her eggs, once she has layed her eggs then move her back into the community to get her health back up. The next ovualing female could be breed when ready.)

I am setting up heating pads on the 40qts with lamp dimmers and heat cable on the 15qt and 6qt tubs also with plug-in lamp dimmers and one thermometer on each shelf in one of the containers to watch the temps and adjust ... I was thinking about using a thermostat but with the tubs 3 different sizes this would not work very well as they will all hold heat different.

Do you have pictures of your setup? If other folks have picture can you also post them please. Just trying to learn this stuff :)

Thanks! It's in bad need of updating! lol

I love your Beardie (?) setup! That is just gorgeous! It looks like you have one happy herp in there! :D

Everything you have setup looks great! I just don't know about moving around the ovulating/gravid females. That may be too much stress for them. You might be better off putting 2-3 females in each 40 qt. tub and putting the male in with them when they are ready to breed and just leaving them in their tub. That way they don't have as much competition and don't have to be moved around. You would have to group them in groups that you want bred to the same male.......you would either want the same genetics so that you know what all the babies are, or very different genetics (the females), so that when the babies hatch you know who they came from and what they are, as they would be visually different upon hatching. Hope that made sense! lol
