I have found that a mercury vapor bulb is best for any uvb needing animal. It provides warmth and uvb. I have one for my boxie and it is so much better than the separate bulbs. He is more active, eats better, and seems to smile all the time. They are pricey varying between 32 and 75 but they last for around 7 months. Just google it. You will need a 160 watt and a ceramic light holder.

I have found that the mercury vapor bulb is absolutely fabulous. Why would you think it would kill a turtle?
Also I never did find them at any pet store they are found on line. Try petdiscounters.com, lllreptile has them as well. You can google it and places will come up that have it.
