Well here is my personal opinion on both... I have tile in my leopard gecko tank, and repti-carpet in my tokay tank.

CARPET PROS:
-Easy to clean if tank has limited number of things are in the tank that are removed easily and the is a spare to use while it dries.
-Easy to fit into a tank
-Even heat distribution
CONS:
-Looks tacky
-Gecko gets teeth stuck when attacking prey. (hard on a huge tokay, cant imagine how it would be on a leopard gecko)
- Folds up sometimes and food gets away underneath without you knowing.
-If there are a lot of things in the tank it is not nearly as easy to clean if everything must be removed to give it a good cleaning. I find this a hassle.
-will wear out over time is gecko feeds in the same place getting teeth stuck

Tile Pros
- Easy to clean, spray bottle and paper towels.
- Looks nice
- Many different colors and sizes to choose from.
-If perfect fit, food can not use it to hide under
- Never wears out
CONS:
-If more then one tile, heat is not distributed the best... really creates and hot and cold side
- Smooth surface makes it hard for catching food.
-Hard to get a perfect fit.

well overall im not sure what my fav is... probably tile, the only thing i dont like is having to put in a piece of shelving carpet to put food on.... but im sure there is tile out there with more grip then what i have.

hope my experience with both can help.

Unglazed (rough) slate allows them to grip better, though mine does slide a little. Not anything that effects feeding though. Also to take up the extra space if you don't get a perfect fit, you can put play sand unre them and between the cracks and use a small vacuum to get the excess out. I can't get some better pics of mine to show what I mean if anyone wants.

With all the things I put in my tank, I don't even notice the carpet (until I have to clean it). If anyone's worried about food getting under the carpet, I use a small ceramic bowl to put my food in (mealworms and, recently, pinkies. Very rarely does the food come out of the bowl and under the carpet). In addition, because their food doesn't crawl out, their teeth don't get stuck. At least I've never seen the leos have a problem.

You could check @ walmart in the section with the candles in it. They have glass candle holders that are pretty perfect. And they are only 50 cents. Each one is about 3/4 of an inch tall snd are heavy so the Leo won't move it around.

I use the ceramic bowl that I used to use for my guinea pigs' food. Depending on how many leos you have, you could look in the small pet section for small bowls.

I much prefer carpet and I'm sure the leos appreciate something comfy instead of hard slate...I know I would! As for teeth getting caught, yes that is a prob! I stopped feeding on the floor and all feeders go in dishes, problem solved!

I have tried those for worms, and I use them for water, but for worms I find that they don't work too well. The geckos can see the worms through the glass, and just keep biting at the glass, but sometimes can't figure out how to go in from the top. I prefer solid colored ceramic dishes for mealies.
