Subject: Oppose HR669number

(Del or Rep Name),

I oppose HR669. This Bill is not based in science, but in the ideology of powerful special interest groups. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that banning the import, sale and trade of any of these animals will have any positive effect on the economy, environment, or human or animal species health.

In fact, if passed it would destroy many families and businesses. It would have a decidedly negative impact on an already ailing economy by destroying a vital and growing industry at a time when our country is in need of jobs and growth. The USFWS has just made changes to the CITES export permit process which would allow quality captive bred animals to be more easily exported to international customers. Passing HR669 would negate all the work USFWS has done for over a year. This Bill is a disaster to American small business and families in a time of economic hardship.

(tell in your own words- what you do and how passing this bill would hurt you and your family)

Please do not pass HR669.

Thank you,

That won't effect Leopard Geckos though since 1. They are so wide spread that it wouldn't be possible, and 2. They don't cause harm to the environment. I wouldn't take too much concern in this.

What makes you think that they won’t move onto leopard geckos next, if this bill gets passed?

Well, i understand that there is more than just Leopard Geckos in the hobby. But i doubt that they will put them on the list because of the Texas Banded Geckos. They dont cause harm and are close relatives to them as well. But it looks bad for boas and pythons.

Leopard Geckos ARE included in this list, in the legistlation it states the animals that are approved. ANY animal that is not on that list would be illegal to import/ export and that includes over state lines by any means, so no more shipping and no transporting by personal means. This is more serious than people realize and it needs to be stopped. The only way that leos would be included is that they would need to be evaluated and then placed on the list and this would take up to 36 months. That is two breeding seasons that people would be prohibited to sell and breed their animals. Then think if you wanted to venture into other geckos, tropical fish, snakes, other lizards you couldn't because they wouldn't be approved either. And don't even think you could keep native animals, as in most states it's illegal already to take any natvie reptile out of the wild, and to breed them is simply out of the question even if you bought captive bred yourself legally from someone else. Leopard Geckos will be affected from day one!!!

I just finished writing the Reps. This whole topic is very upsetting and I appreciate everyone that has taken the time to view and act on this thread.
