Reptile Shows and Stress?

We read so much about stress and was just wondering how the Breeders do it? They have to pack and travel. They are put on display and then handled many times during the show. I assume the noise level is high also.

Just curious? How do you de-stress yours after a show?

Do you mean me or the geckos?
I don't sell breeding geckos, just juvies. In my opinion, stress is not the end of the world; it's part of life. I don't put them in their deli cups till the last minute and I don't let people handle them, mostly, during the show. I unpack them into their enclosures first thing when I get back. I have not seen them get all freaked out and refuse to eat; some of them go to sleep in their deli cups. Mostly when they get back they're pretty tired so maybe by the next evening they're refreshed. I did have one AFT juvie who did really freak out in the deli cup and was doing the silent scream. I ended up holding her in my hand for the entire show and she went to sleep there.

I don't know how the breeders do it honestly. I mean some of them bring so many animals then they have to take them back and put em all back and I'm sure it's time consuming. I'd think a show would be more stressful on the breeder then it is the animal.

The shows I've been too weren't too noisy but they were local shows in Ohio nothing big like the Dayton shows. I'm sure those ones are pretty noisy as there are so many people there.

I have done so many shows ( not rep) over the years I finally figured out why I was so tired at the end of the day. It was the ambient noise level. It's a fact. Just put in your earbuds on your ipod and sit there for 10 hours with it cranked up and see how tired you are when you have really not done anything out of the ordinary.....lol.

Maybe our description of noisy is a bit different lol. I don't think they are too bad. I went to a show in Tennessee years ago and it was a big show and it was so noisy I had to leave because I couldn't enjoy the show at all.
I've only been to 3-4 shows here in Ohio so maybe I got lucky and caught the quiter days.

As a vendor I don't get particularly tired out by the noise, it's more the issue of being "on" for 8 hours, not to mention loading the car, driving 1-4 hours, unloading and doing it all in reverse. A good show for me is when I come back with a lot fewer geckos, obviously.

Honestly I think that stress in reptiles is something that happens when it's over a length of time. I've had very little problems with mine at the shows. Any that come back with me are put away and allowed a couple days to recoup but I've never really had anything show any ill signs from stress at the show. Noise doesn't seem to be a factor, I usually have one out at a time as a demo and they usually just fall asleep on the back of my hand or shoulder....

The shows I have done with geckos and dragons the dragons get more stressed than the geckos do. When the dragons go back into there bins by the next morning most are back to normal. My geckos could care less...lol
