Hey guys,
Long time reader and first time poster lol. I saw this little guy "Dino" in *****, and then they had 20 gallon long talks for $20 so i had to rescue this beautiful gecko. Dino is a great eater and seems super healthy. I was looking at pics of all different types of Leo's and cant pin down exactly which morph it is:main_huh: Can anyonw help?

Thanks!!

I'm sorry I have to say this, but it really is one of my few pet peeves - Just because you took the animal out of inadequate circomstances dos not mean you rescued it. As long as you paid money for him, you are simply reinforcing the conditions of the animal's seller and giving them reason to continue their business.

As for the morph, he is a Super Hypo Tang. Glad he is eating for you and is acting healthy :)

I will bet any money that by the time the gecko reaches adulthood that those spots will have disappeared. You can see where a bunch of them have faded already. :)

On a larger scale your right in that by purchasing him from a chain I did support something I am against. On a smaller scale I did take this Leo out of a 10gal tank with 10 other leo's in it and am not caring for it, which I consider on a personal level "rescuing" even if all I did contribute to the promotion of chain selling gecko's. But whateves! Thanks for the info!

Sucks it has a small drop tail. If you look really close you can see it. Hope to use for breeding though if he/she turns out nice.

Yea, quite a few of the leos that come ot of the big stores have regen tails. Just part of the stress and overcrowding I assume.

One of mine as well.

I'll take it a step further too- to all outward appearances that gecko seems perfectly healthy, so it wasn't even being subjected to anything other than the necessary retail population densities.

Nobody rescued a damn thing. Some guy bought a leopard gecko and is incapable of just saying that.

Is it really all of that? So the guy bought a leopard gecko. Just because he didnt find the one that needed serious rescuing you blast him? He obviously thought he was doing some good, which would be why he wrote on here, maybe for some "positive" feedback. Im pretty sure if he posted, he's more than capable of saying that he bought a leopard gecko. It's not like he's out to piss everyone off. Relax.

I dont think anyone was "blasted". I was just pointing out that purchasing a gecko from a store is not by any means rescuing and M happens to agree. Granted his tone is a bit more brusk than mine but I dont feel that anything unnecessary or untruthful was said. I also feel like the OP has received a lot of positive feedback regarding his gecko.

I think it is an important distinction for three reasons.

First and foremost, words have specific predetermined meanings. That is the entire reason verbal communication works. Deviating from those meanings breaks down the entire system.

Secondly, there is nothing wrong with purchasing a healthy gecko from a petstore, despite certain trends among some pet keepers. There is nothing villainous about it, nothing that needs to be hidden or obscured or excused. Pet store bashing is all too common these days and calling every healthy animal purchased from one a "rescue" just perpetuates the completely undeserved stigma that there is.

Third, there are people who spend their time, effort and money actually rescuing animals that genuinely need it. I think it is important that they receive all the credit and support for doings so that they are due and in order for that to happen, the word "rescue" needs to carry with it the distinction it should have based on the definition. A rescue is not a purchase or a surrender or even something that shapes up just fine with a little casual TLC. It is saving an animal from abuse, neglect and potential death. It is expensive, it is exhausting and it is an emotional investment that most people simply don't or can't put in to an effort. Those who do- they should have a label for themselves, like a medal of honor. Nobody gets a Purple Heart for skinning their knee and nobody should get to call themselves a rescue just for buying a new pet.

Ok, fair enough. You are absolutely correct. I just dont think the OP was looking for a purple heart if you know what i mean. You wont get an argument out of me.

Dude you guys are brutal!! HAHA yea your right I didn't rescue the gecko, I just bought it. To tell you the truth though I really don't even care what people here think about how I used the word "rescued" and if I used it properly or not. I am just looking for info and feedback about the gecko. The gecko's really are so much more interesting than my language haha, and I dont feel like I got really BLASTED, but mabe thats because I really don't care lol. Love the feedback about the gecko tho. thanks everyone.

Add me to that list. I refuse to buy a leo from the chain stores no matter how bad they look. I will not support them getting more. Buying and rescuing are two different things.

I hope the gecko does well for you.
