Hello,

I just aquired a 3-4 year old leopard gecko. She is loosing weight (because she wasnt being fed) and she has had trouble shedding and now has shed stuck all of her toes and I am scared she will lose them. I have given her a warm bath for the last two nights ( I got her last night) and she has a moist hide but they are still not coming off. I tried to get it off with a moist Q tip but one started bleeding so I stopped. Also where she had shed stuck on her head her previous owner peeled it off and now she has a bad sore on her lip and the tip of her snout is raw. I have cleaned it with 25%peroxide 75%water and put a dap of bacetracin in it...what can I do...and what do I do to restimuate appetite she wont eat. Here are some pics of her 20L set up and her. Thanks in advance . (BTW- I was a member about 3 years ago and am just now getting back into reptiles)

She might be too stressed to eat. You can try offering a variety of feeders, including wax worms. (Most geckos won't turn these down, but they should be used sparingly.) Butterworms are also readily accepted but extremely nutritious.

Her weight isn't critical, so I wouldn't PANIC yet because she's still settling in.

Her sores should be ok, I usually use polysporin but because they are near her mouth, I'm not sure I would. Someone else can answer this. Just keep them clean with warm water and keep her cage clean and free of debris, of course.

As for her toes, keep soaking her in warm water. If the tips turn black, the tissue is dead and you're going to lose them. I have tried and liked both the "Zilla" brand "Shed-Ease" which you add to warm water and the "Zoo-Med" shedding aid spray.

Good luck! I just took in a rescue as well.

Wow, good on your part trying to give her a better life!

First about the toes and stuck on shed: I would keep at it with the soaks, however due to the Sores on her mouth and such, if you think its not shed but a scab Leave it alone. any other time i say try to use a Q-tip but since there are indeed wounds, as for the toes you can But a little bottle of glycerin i like to dap on to my geckos teos when they have shed problems

Mouth sore: Let it be, it looks almost like she was Burned.....that has to hurt!.... and if it does start bleeding, Pat it dry with a Q tip, DAB of neosporin, i would do very little Around the mouth (since she Will lick it, its just how much) really keep i eye on this, it might even looks Worst drying up and skin flaking off (that's a good thing it means its healing) but if it start to drip puss, turn colors, or she is having even more trouble them normal get her to a vet

Feeding: There is a clear reason why she might not wanna eat, it HURTS! but she might just cut back on eating rather then Stop. i would put her on a wide range of feeders Meal worms or wax worms (mainly wax worms) as for trying to Kick start it, i swear by T-rex Liquid drops they have a 100% Calcium, Pure D3, And a Electrolyte one that might help you the best, since it give weaker reptiles a stronger push Until they heal.

if you need any help just Ask and good luck!

Is there any chance she has a respiratory infection? She may need a vet visit to find out. I had a few geckos recently that had mouth sores because they had RI's and were breathing through their mouths.
