Pegasus (A.K.A. Tripod, DSH, Calico) lost her battle to chronic renal failure & severe diabetes yesterday after 17 wonderful years. Peggy couldn't have asked for a more caring, wonderful family, as we have gone above and beyond the call of duty to make her comfortable for the last few years she has been sick. Being a veterinary technician and having to witness this every day, I prepared myself for her loss and figured that I would be okay considering I was "used to it." Boy, was I wrong. I lost it the second she took her last agonal breath. I think it was the first time I ever REALLY cried during a euthanasia. And of course at the sight of big-tough-old-Maia- cryin' my eyes out, my vet started crying. I even had a necklace made out of one of her DNA helix. The whole procedure was done with tons of compassion; they did a wonderful job. But I still miss my baby...I remember adopting her when I was in 3rd grade like it was yesterday.
