Roach infestation?

I just ordered some dubia roaches for my leo to try. I mentioned this in passing to my husband later and he was pretty angry. He's afraid that they will start an infestation if they get loose. If they do happen to get loose, will they cause trouble?

I see you live in Detroit, I can guarantee if you have any get loose they will die shortly after.

Dubia need a moist humid enviroment to thrive, and your home in Detroit does not provide that enviroment :)

Roaches can survive for a while at room temps, but they can't breed at them. The nymphs need very high humidity to molt successfully, without that they die in-molt. So while a few stray roaches might live for a while in your house, they won't infest it. I do find the ocassional lateralis escapee(much better at escaping than dubia) but they never make it past their next molt and if they do reproduce the eggs never hatch and/or the nymphs never grow. Infestation is HIGHLY unlikely in Detroit. Even if they managed to survive the summer, winter dry air and cold would off them quickly.

everyone basically gave great info they wont infest for the temp and humidity reasons. but i understand the postion your in because no body likes to hear you are bringing roaches into the home and have this fear of investation. but honestly. Dubia almost never get out. i keep egg flats in there for them to live in but i also keep paper towel rolls in their enclosure also egg flats cut into strips. when i first got them i decided to do anything Dubia related in the bathroom in the bath tub since they cannot climb a smooth surface plus the tub is white and their brown/black you would notice them right away.

but now i just get a empty 32oz container and i take a tube or strip out and shake them off into the container and just pour them into which ever enclosure i am feeding them to.
