For my first season I am planning to use a homemade incubator (Styrofoam container w/ flexwatt tape) I was looking at the different incubation containers and the S.I.M. looks really interesting? I would love some opinions from people who have used it, and do you think it would work ok with a homemade incubator?

I use them exclusively now. THey work fine. Anything will work with an incubator that can hold a steady temperature. However, the SIM's do not work well with an incubator like the hobovator where the heat source is at the top. Squamata (who makes the SIMS) produced a special adaptation for the SIM which helped with this. If your home made incubator can hold the temps steady, regardless of the ambient temperature, and the heat source is not at the top, there's no reason why it wouldn't work. I have found also that I had to put a lot of water in the substrate to get the droplet condensation on the sides that indicated enough humidity.
