I don't know if SFgeckos has access to this section or not, but this is addressed to him in response to this thread- http://www.geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=39702

I think you've reached the point where you no longer respect the fact that you are responsible for the wellbeing of living creatures.

You're more concerned with not disturbing the rest of your eggs than to intervene? That's disappointing.

Didn't even notice... nonetheless, I don't want to flame the guy, especially not in public. I just don't find any humour in it.

It sounds like nothing more than an unfortunate occurance. I have known Jon from SF Geckos for many years, and I can tell you that he cares deeply about his animals. I had a female Sunglow that lost the tip of her tail from a bad shed a few weeks ago... does that make me someone who has reached the point where I no longer respect the fact that I am are responsible for the wellbeing of living creatures?

I think to find humor in it and to walk away for 30 minutes after this occured and even then still not seperate them until sometime later is upsetting.

I've known SFgeckos online for some time now, and wouldn't expect that from him. I think it's a situation where he worded himself poorly and didn't convey what he meant.

But certainly if disturbing eggs is a greater priority than seperating a now injured hatchling... my initial sentiment applies.

The damage was done... the tail was dropped.

I understand what you are trying to say but my opinion is it's not a big deal. These things happen and I think Jon was trying to find some humor in it. That's all.

I reread the post and agree that the damage was done and it was humor that was misunderstood(never happens to me :main_rolleyes: ).

Exactly :)

Doesn't change my opinion of Jon, either... I've known him to be a good guy and still think he is. Just was saddened the way I first read his post. His reply was quite good though, I definitely appreciated it.

Yeah, when he first tells his story, it definitely seems more cruel.. but when things happen so fast there isn't much you can do. Although if that were me, I would have been mortified.

I have delt with Jon and I can say I have been nothing but very happy with my dealings with him... Infact I still have a pair of LVPAs I got from him about 7 or 8 years ago (now my daughters pets)...

An unfortunate thing happend to that little leo but it does happen and they are "built" for such mishaps... Jon found humor in a situation that was not life treatening to the gecko... Honestly, if you read the story, it is kinda funny the way it went down... I would rather see someone laugh at that type of situation than to cry about it and run the gecko off to the vet... LOL

I agree, to an extent. An experienced breeder certainly wouldn't panic over such a thing, but at the same time after the fact you'd think action would be taken to make sure the chances of survival remained high. What really got me was that he left them together, came back thirty minutes later, noted they were still fighting, and then said eventually he seperated them. It's just the way it's worded that seems a little callous.

I get the "sometimes you just have to sit back and laugh" aspect of it all, but he doesn't tell it in a way that imparts humour.

I wouldn't cry or run to the vet, but it would still be upsetting for me.. I've only dealt with one dropped tail, and the gecko died.. so that has *just a little bit* to do with it
