I want to put 3-4 crickets in his cage a day for him to eat instead of dumping 2 dozen at a time in there. I read I need food and fresh water for the crickets to live. The water inst deep enough to drown them its very little. Yet when they touch it they jump like crazy, spaz out, and die. I just killed almost all of them doing this. I have cricket food for them which I have been using.

Do they really need water?

Do you mean do the crickets need water, or do the geckos need water? THey both need water. The crickets will try to drink the water and usually fall in and drown. If they're dying any other way besides floating in the water, you may have a different problem, although I can't imagine what. My water dishes allow most of the crickets to sit on the side and drink so only a few fall in. The other choice is to take the water dish out when you're feeding the gecko and put it back in later. I assume you're giving your crickets some kind of moisture. THey need either veggies which will give them moisture, gel cubes or a wet sponge. Let us know if you have any more questions.

yea they need water but u can buy the commercialy bought gut loading cricket food like example flukers. The orange cube supplies vitanimes, food, and water. Or if you have gut loading food already you can just buy those water pillows. Or get a paper towel and make it into a ball and squirt it with water. He helps for them to drink but they can also hide :D

Crickets are VERY thirsty creatures! I do not recommend 'dumping' 2 dozen crickets into your gecko's enclosure... ever. The geckos will only eat 6-8 appropriate sized crickets in each feeding, so all the xtras are only going to drown in the water and stress out the gecko.

If you can provide moisture for the crickets in their own enclosure you are keeping them in, they will be less likely to go for the water in the gecko's enclosure. I use a folded up paper towel, very wet, for my crickets. This way I can just toss it out and replace it when it gets too disgusting.
