Shedding..very pale coloring in new skin

Is it normal for a gecko to fade completely while shedding, even the new skin underneath? My gecko is acting normal (though not eating, showing interest in crickets). I had one of my geckos pass away from an unknown cause (it did not get thin like it had parasites or anything and it was separated from this healthy gecko a while before it passed away). This one seems to be having a normal shed (that started late last week) but its whole body looks pale (absence of the bright yellow and lavender coloring it had before starting the shedding process). Is this normal or is it a sign of a problem? When should I expect the coloring to begin to return?

How long does the shedding process normally take?

PS....I will post photos later on in the evening of before and now.

Can someone please give me advice? I am so afraid that I will lose this guy too....could this be a normal shed with the gecko being as pale as it is?

I have already been told that this looks like my other gecko before he/she passed, so I am not sure if anyone can give me insight as to what the heck this could be!? It doesn't make sense and I really am not sure what to do at this point. I know I will NEVER go to a chain pet store to get any kind of pet (aside from fish) ever again!

If I were you I'd give him a bath. A nice long warm soak to remove that extra skin, rehydrate, and clean him up a bit. I'm not sure what else you can do aside from double checking your temps

Are there any raw parts? If so you could place neosporin on them to help them heal. Than as they said, make sure he stays nice and hydrated. Give him a warm soak and make sure his moist hide is nice and moist.

I would also recommend a bath, maybe put him in a small box ( with a lid on ) put some papertowel in the butom and then poor in some water ( not toooo much though ).
it's skin look soo dry - do it have a humid hide ? the moss is not enough.

ANSWERS

Thanks for the responses guys...here are some answers....

1 - The humid hide is a piece of plastic with moist moss on it covered by a half log....is this not enough? ----- I have removed the moss and am using paper towel right now for fear the the moss was irritating its skin.

2 - It does NOT have open sores like my other gecko had, not even close....the skin under the shed looks normal but pale

3- This gecko has 2 water dishes (one that is automated).

4 - The warm side of the tank is 90-92 degrees and the cool side is 75-78 degrees (average temps). I have an infared heat lamp on the warm side as well as an uth.

5 - I will try the warm soak tonight....Does anyone have recommendations as to how long to let her soak and how to keep her warm during this time?

6 - She is shedding for sure, and the skin underneath looks okay (just pale as I have said), she's just having a heck of a time with the process.

One more thing....She is opening her eyes completely and I can see that her eyes are clear (unlike my previous gecko).

Thanks to everyone for your help!

For anybody that is interested, my gecko is doing much better after its bath. I got a lot of the loose/dry skin off by soaking and then using a q-tip to gently remove the moist skin. I would say one more is needed to get the remaining skin off his/her feet, but he/she was in there for at least 40 minutes so I knew that he/she was probably get irritated with being in there so I took him/her out. I will probably give him/her another bath tonight and then see if he/she will eat.....By the way, he/she now has a name, and its Spazz (due to his/her high energy).

That's great news! Thanks for the update. Post pics when he/she starts to heal, k?

I definitely will! Spazz has already started to gain some coloring back to his/her skin! I am so excited and relieved to see that he/she is going to be just fine and does not in fact have the same thing that killed my other gecko! It seems like he/she is just having a bad shed!
