hi guys I was just wondering if you guys could help decide weather I should breed leopard geckos or not. Is it hard, a lot of work? do you recommend breeding if I dont know where to sell them? Thanx...

This is what you need (both materials and ideas) before you breed:

at least 1.1 leopard geckos in good health with the female at least 9 months old and 50 grams

an incubator, lay box and egg container

places to house the babies. You could get anywhere from 1-20 babies from each female

money and resources to feed the babies and take babies or adults to the vet if they develop a problem. If you are living in your parents' home and don't have your own income, make sure your parents are willing to help out with food and medical care

the ability to deal with a birth defect or a dead in the egg baby

plans to keep all the babies yourself or to give away or sell them.

time to feed the babies (I have 50 hatchlings and about 25 adults and it takes me about 2.5 hours to feed everyone and 1.5 hours to feed only the babies).

The actual breeding part is easy; it's the stuff that goes with it that can be expensive and is time consuming.

Breeding the geckos and incubating the eggs is not difficult. Caring for and feeding all the little mouthes after they hatch is a different story! Keep in mind that a most females lay around 6 clutches, sometimes more. With the market so flooded with Leos it can be hard to find homes for 12+ babies. That's probably the most important thing to keep in mind as you make your decision.

thanx guys its just that i just bought a mack snow bold stripe female that is ovulating and i think it would be a waste of a beautiful gecko not to breed her. I got her from an online breeder in very good health.

We had over 30 ovulating females that we didn't breed this year. Don't ever feel like it's a waste not to breed them. Just enjoy them for their beauty.
