Show off your scars!!

Mine are pretty minor compared to some of the stories here, but I will tell anyways. I am covered with scars from various cuts and scrapes but the newest one is from last Sept. when I had to have shoulder surgery. I was on duty and went to the house of a guy that had decided to run from me earlier in the evening. When me and my partner arrived at the guys house, he came outside and that is when we had a difference in opinions. I wanted to take him to jail and he did not want to go. So needless to say I was forced to impose my will on him and in the process I blew out my shoulder. He went to jail and I went to the hospital. Luckily the surgery was done through a scope so no huge scars but I get to live in pain the rest of my life and I have limited range of motion in my shoulder, also for the rest of my life. Four months later I was back on duty and on New Years I was driving up the road taking a guy to jail after he beat up his g/f and I got hit head on by a drunk driver. So since I will likely have to get a disc replacement now according to my Dr., I'll have some more scars to post up in a couple months...but for the minor shoulder scars...

I always tell people, when I show off my scars, that I get marked for every stupid thing I do. Here are just three of the many scars I have, and the explanations punctuate my point.

This is my left hand. I got this one while sharpening a pencil in an automatic pencil sharpener. Did you know that when pencils don't have erasers, it's a bad idea to put your palm on them and press down really hard while sharpening in an automatic sharpener? I didn't. Not until I cut a perfect circle into the palm of my hand.

This one's on my left forearm. I was cooking a casserole in a glass pan. Took it out of the oven, was startled by my dog, turned INTO THE WALL, forgot to turn my arms, laid the entire casserole dish along my forearm, sat there for a moment while I cooked myself, then proceeded to drop the dish onto the floor. *the casserole was completely fine, and the dish never broke*

This is on my right shin. For some reason I thought wandering around in the dark would be a good idea. It was an even better idea when I kicked my exposed bedframe after tripping over NOTHING and falling. I'm embarrassing.

I don't have a pic of my favorite scar, though, because it's starting to fade. I worked at McDonald's for a while, mainly as a cashier, but there was one time where I had to make the french fries. I didn't empty the fries from the basket fast enough and I don't know what I was thinking, but I decided I needed to lean in further to make sure they got out quicker. In the process, the basket got stuck and my arm was pressed against the mesh. I have a christmas-tree-shaped scar on my right forearm.

Wow Paul, you gotta send me some more pics of chainsaw meets hand!!

Chad, thanks for sharing, for doing what you do, and I hope you stay safe out there!!!

Khrysty, I like the "perfect circle" scar.. I haven't done that, but I used to take the pencils and push that end into my hand to make circles all over lol my pencils were ALWAYS like that because I used to eat the erasers (yeah I said it, what of it! LOL ;))

First scar is from surgery on my chest in 2002. I was born with funnel chest and they did surgery for my pectus excavatum.

I had another surgery on my chest February of 2007. They did a nuss procedure and put two bars in my chest. The upper bar came loose from my ribs, flipped backwards and was moving up and putting pressure on my trachea. They took the bar out five weeks after the original surgery. Now I'm more than likely going to have the other bar taken out because I've been in chronic pain for the past few weeks. Turns out after some x-rays the I've grown taller and my chest has expanded thus putting more pressure on the bar.

I've also got two small scars from chest tubes just above my stomach and then one chest tube scar on my left and right below the scars from the bar.

My scar from a dog bite I recieved in september. My dog was fighting with another, and mine was losing so I went in and seperated them and was accidently bitten by my dog. It was very painful and the wounds were pretty deep. The dog is just fine in case anyone was wondering.

Wow biggiy, that is some serious stuff. I had to look up funnel chest even though I could imagine what it was just by the name. Glad you are doing alright with yours but sucks you are having some complications. Hope everything comes out good for you.

biggiy, sounds like you've been through some real serious stuff there. I am terribly sorry to hear about all of the complications and the chronic pain that you're in. I hope that things work out all right for you, and best wishes!!

Katelyn, that was very brave of you to seperate the dogs like that to save your own. Props to you, I'm sure the scar was worth it :)

It's been one heck of a trip. I went through the fire academy less than a year after having surgery. That was a reality check for me. My captain had his doubts I would make it to the state test but I finished strong. The worse part of it all was wearing the old MSA bottles. Those air backs irritated my chest to no end.

The sooner the bar comes out the sooner I can sneeze without doubling over in pain. Oh and I'll be able to twist! I'm going to walk around the hospital stretching.:main_laugh:

ran into a ladder when i was 10.

took an angle iron to the back

and i have about 23 scars like this one on my legs from MRSA where they had to lance the infection, drain it, and then pack the cut twice a day so it would heal from the inside out.

these next couple probably wont be up for too long because im really concious about them..... i was with amber for 5 years and i didnt even like when she looked at them.
DSC04165.jpg

this is on my left leg. the MRCA infection was stuck out of my skin about a quarter of an inch and when down to the muscle. when it was removed it also needed to heal from the inside out, and when the dressings were removed you could see wright to the muscle.
DSC04161.jpg

this is the right leg and as the same discription. above are the insitions from early 08
DSC04164.jpg

these insitions were made because of a MRCA infection that was between them bone and muscle in my thigh.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you get MRCA in so many spots? And yeah, I agree, nothing to be ashamed of. Scars are part of life.

my mom travils doing purse parties at peoples houses. the doctors thinks she picked up staph at one of those houses cause she got one infection and she was fine. i got one the same time as her and cause my diabetes it just went down hill. it stays in your blood stream and the just kept poping up out of no where.

Ah, yeah, that makes sense. I used to work in corrections and it runs rampant in that type of environment. Luckily I never got it but it would have just been a matter of time if I had worked there long enough.

well, according to my ID doctor, anyone who works in or spends more than a week in a hospital or the prison system is most likely a carrier of MRSA but depending on you immun system is wether or not youll get an infection
