Sick Eye??

One of our females leos has a messed up eye. It looks like she may have gotten some kind of debris from the vermiculite in her lay box in it. We tried to flush it out with some water and it looks clean now, but now her eye is swollen and cloudy looking. It doesn't seem to be actually hurting her or anything, but I imagine that that can't be too comfortable and I know that it needs to be fixed asap before it gets infected (if it's not already) . Is there anything that we can maybe flush her eye out with or something that we can get over the counter to put in it that is medicated? Please help. This is the same female that recently lost her tail due to bad shedding (and is still gravid) and I really don't want her sick again. ????

I tried to get a good picture of her eye, but she was getting kind of mad and uncooperative. You can still kind of see how swollen and cloudy it is though, so maybe that will help figure it out......

In order to clean the eye, you could use contact lens solution or saline solution. If it still doesn't clear up, I would see a reptile vet. It doesn't look too bad yet; it seems just cloudy, not a thick cap or bulge. If you only noticed that yesterday night, it hasn't progressed much yet. It might be the cause of a bad shed, or vermiculite dust that got in the eye. I only use moist paper towel in my shed boxes now.

Just keep in mind that the eyes are very close to the brain, and if it is an infection, you don't want it to spread. I had a gecko with an eye infection once that spread to the mouth. She healed up without a vet. I used a q-tip to clean out her eye.

Your sweet little girl also has a slight underbite. But she has a nice color!

Good luck!!

We went to Petsmart and we're in good with the manager there and he actually gave us some antibiotic eye drops that they use on some of there reptiles up there that have had minor eye infections. We cleaned her eye out and we've given her the drops twice and it's already starting to look a million times better!! :) .... And her underbite is only slight from that angle. The entire side of her mouth is crooked. Don't know why. She was like that when we bought her. ....
