My local pet store has two leopard geckos. One is getting quite large and seems to be doing fine. The other is not growing and has a deformed looking area on his mouth. There does not seem to be any discharge, it is just swollen and misshapen. Like I said it is considerable smaller then the other gecko (they have been there for about 2 months), they are housed together in a 10 gallon tank, on sand, with one half-a-log type hide area. The bulb on them looks like a 60 w. Does anyone know what may be wrong with the gecko? Do you think it is something contagious to the other gecko? It is a small store and I was thinking of trying to make some kind of deal with the owner to let me buy the healthy gecko and have her give me the sick one (since it looks like it will die without help anyway), and take it to the vet. But I don’t want to waste the money if you guys think it cant be saved. I know i cant save them all, and I’m trying to be realistic. Thank you in advance for any help you guys can give.

2 males?
different sizes?
they should be kept separately at first
I think you could try with that one - give him a big attention

Ummm, I'm not entirely sure on how bad that is but if you're willing to help, talk to the petshop about buying the one and having the other one for free (like you say) but are you sure that you can afford it and also have the space as obviously they will both need 2 separate tanks?

It could definitely be Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) which is caused by the body not absorbing enough calcium. Basically it causes to bones to get soft and disfigure. Sort of like Osteoporosis is humans. It could also be some sort of abscess in it's mouth which would probably cause it to not want to eat. It's hard to say what might be wrong without seeing it but they should be housed separately at the very least. Ideally the sick one would go to the vet.
