alright so heres the scoop... :(

our local pet store has had a tremp albino for a lil while now... close to a month or lil longer... just a juvi... i have wanted him sence ive seen him but finances have kept that from happening... but hes always looked great and just a really cool gecko! take note that everytime im in this place i go strait to the geckos, unlock there tank and take this guy out! *we (the pet store and my house) use the same style locks and our keys intermingle!* and im good with the owner, so no harm done... anyways... i always take him out and keep him interacting with me... and always said hes just waitin for me :p

well long story semi short...

tonight my wife and i go in there... and again went to check on the lil guy and was very disturbed by what was found... first he had stuck shed on his tail and bottom jaw... we took that off no real problem... but the disturbing part... he now has a BIG hump or bump or what ever you wanna call it in the center of his spine... i mean you just look at him and instantly go, is his back broken? he still lets me handle him with no real problems... but something is seriously not right all of the sudden... and now he is walking funny too... i feel like my lil "deformed" gecko hope has less of a "gimp" to her than he does... he seemed to walk very i dunno how to explain it... side to side i guess... not at all what a gecko is saposed to walk like... i brought it to the owners attention and they claimed that he has always been like this... wich i know is crap :main_angry: i visit this lil guy on a weekly occasion... i have checked him over from head to toe many many times... like i said i wanted to buy this lil guy... i have checked him out!!! so im kind of irritated because of the lie, i mean this is the #1 place i go for all of my animal needs... and i know they know i know better... why they chose to lie i dont understand :main_thumbsdown: but i dont care about that... im just worried about the lil guy... i have read that its very unlikely that they break bones... i mean i have had several of our geckos jump and land on the cement floors here with out a problem... so my guess was... if its not broken what could it be... all i could think of right then was MBD... ? so i convinced them to put a dish of calcium in there with him... any guesses on whats up with him and can i do anything to help him while hes there??? i hate that i dont have the cash to just go swoop him out of there and attempt to help... *sigh* but is there anything i can recomend... and a vet visit is out... that would be too much cash for them... they just soon let em die before soaking money into somethin like that... but is there anything i can do or recomend?

this is all on top of him being skinny... skinny tail... infact today he was out of water, so i gave him some water and we have never seen a gecko dart to a water bowl like that before! :main_no:

so yeah thats the story... im sooo ticked off :main_angry:and then just sad :(... *sigh* what could be the issue???? HELP?

It's sick and sad to me that people can own a pet store and be so ignorant and careless about things like this! The gecko literally looks as though his back is broken in half! That was my first thought when I saw it. Poor guy looks just crippled! If he doesn't have broken bones I don't know what is wrong with him. Like Bill said, he was walking so poorly...yes, he was able to get around, but not as easily as he should have. It was hard to tell if the issue with his walking had to do with his back or if there was further injury (possibly to his legs?) but it was very evident with little notice that something serious was wrong with him. I don't know anything about MBD, if it comes on quickly or takes time to notice....but if it's not a broken bone and it's not MBD I wouldn't know what it is! It breaks my heart that people could be so ignorant to say that he's always been that way...and to lie to someone who's handled it every time he's in there is even stupider. It doesn't seem to me as though there's a fix for what's happened with his back, but hopefully the calcium and water (hey, what a concept!) will help him to get at least a little bit healthier...poor little guy. You'd think that these people would just know better! :( A customer shouldn't have to come into your store and remove stuck shed from one of your geckos and then water it....grr....

*End Rant*

he doesnt seem to be shakey... but deffenitly rubbery... kind of unstable... he kind of walks with a waddle... only its his whole body thats wobbling... i got them to put a small amount of calc. with D3 in mixed with some multi vit. in a dish... think this will do him some good? its insane and sad to see... ive personally never seen anything like it before... he was fine less than a week ago... *sigh*

wonder if hes been dehydrated too long? You had said that he darted for the water dish. Just a guess. If its a money thing, maybe you could talk to them into letting you make payments or since he is now not acting right, maybe you could talk them into a discount.

If his spine was broken, he would be unable to walk at all. You say it wasn't there before so it shouldn't be a deformity. It is likely to be a serious case of mbd. I've just never heard of mbd causing an enlargement of a bone. Is it like a hard calcified bump?

i didnt really touch it too much in fear of causeing him pain... but to look at it... the best way we can discribe is it looks like a completly broken bone that didnt rip threw the skin... not saying it is a broken bone... but thats what it looks like... like you see it and your tummy almost turns... its not right... i will be going back tomorrow to check on him... ill try to feel the bump see what it may or maynot be... maybe i can get a pic, but i dunno if they would want me to... *shrug* maybe they will let me bring him home... i have a couple of there misfits there... this one is just frusterating cuz he was fine... he didnt come in like this... *ERRRR* but anyways... ill try to feel it tomorrow and let ya know... *sigh* :(

Can MBD come on that quickly? Would that be common?

I think you should talk to the owner about this and ask him if you could keep him until he's alll better then return him then later buy him

I think you should talk the owner into letting you have him for free as a "damaged" creature (you know what I mean)

Sounds like MBD to me, too. It hit our Uro almost overnight, it seemed. He was lethagic and there was a lump that apeared right between his shoulder blades. (At first, we though maybe he had injured himself.)We started dosing him with liquid calcium and he was back to himself within a week.

We actually had a baby hatch with a bump between his shoulder blades. ???He's fine now and it's gone down with lots of calcium. He used to walk very wobbly as well. We think it was just a calcium defficiency.

God, this could be my store.

Yes, your gecko has MBD. We've had geckos with similar symptoms. I tried to save them but I can't go in everyday....And I didn't have liquid calcium to give to them. And I'm the only one who gives a damn about the reptile section.

I agree with what someone said about asking to have him for free or at a discount.

One of our girls got a broken leg and a cracked sternum from a fall at a vets office. She now has a "bump" on her sternum and her leg is a little crooked. Could someone at the store possibly dropped him? Is it possible for MBD to come on that fast? It seems like the symptoms of MBD would come on slightly more gradual but i am not sure.

well i forgot my cam today so no pics... but the bad news is the bump is still there... it does feel pretty solid... now the good news... it doesnt seem to bother him much to touch it, his calcium was completly gone in the corse of 2 days, so i reloaded him with some more... he seems to be walking alot better today than he did 2 days ago... so maybe the calcium did him some good? so he seems to be improving... i have seen a couple peps use liquid calcium... how do you use it? mix with water orrrr??? ive never used it so im clueless...

so now the selffish question... if we were to get this guy... will he be a pet only or could we breed him down the road... i ask simply cuz we were lookin to buy a male for breeding in the future... given all of our rescues as of late... i dunno if we have enough room for a "pet" knowin that we will soon get another male if he cant be bred... so can you breed a male gecko that has/had MTB???

Merrik licks her liquid calcium from a dropper. She seems to like it really well but she has gotten used to taking it over the past year.

Wow.. that's a tough situation. It definitely sounds like something isn't right and I don't want the gecko to suffer either... maybe you can kindly speak to the manager/owner as a regular customer that you're very concerned for the gecko and can you take him at a discounted/free cost.

If they show no regard for the animal, considering calling the SPCA?
