Do they sleep in their back? Gf just called said he was sleeping on his back in his shed box. She woke him and he is fine but is this common?

Most reptiles are very protective of their spines and very few types will lay on their backs. I've never seen this. I would monitor it and see if it was a one time thing and like Paul said may have been trying to remove some back shed skin.. If it continues I would probably contact your Herp Vet.

That is exactly what I was thinking and what I told him in a PM. I don't see why it would go on it's back by choice. Thought he might get some answers posting it, but I guess no one has seen this before. I was also thinking what Paul said, that maybe it fell that way and was almost in too much shock or something to move. I certainly don't know though...

well he seems fine. he was in his hide and he was chalk white last night. I did see him rubbing against the wall of it. this morning he seems a lot brighter in color ouldn't find any shed skin. this is out first reptile. how long does it take to shed? He ate just fine this morning. 4-5 large meal worms.

I think he is fine. thanks for the response.

Well, they eat their shed. If he is brighter, then he shed last night and ate it already

Make sure he doesn't have any stuck shed on his toes or any other parts. It can cause "dead toes". The excess skin can cut off circulation and the toe will fall off. To get it off, take a wet q-tip or tweezers. Soak his toe in warm water...then gently peel it off

My gecko is chalk white and about to shed soon too :)

I unserstand they eat their shed, but I didn't think the whole thing was a couple hour process. I mean he was looking like he rolled in baby powder lastnight @ 11:00 p when I went to bed and 5:00 this morning when I got up there was NO sign of any shew on eyes, toes, tail none. is that plausable?

Yup, exactly, but also check the tail and nose. Well, check everywhere, but those three are generally where shed gets stuck.

I'm not sure on how long it takes. If he was chalk white...and now he's not I would say he already shed :)

Congrats on your first shed lol

Mine has taken anywhere from 12 hours (younger) to about 20 minutes now. I see shes about to shed, I'll go watch a tv show and shes done. It almost amazes me she had shed problems as a hatchling.

HAHA, well, I in NO way consider myself a pro, but stuff like this I at least have experience with. I thought it was great how I just helped you with your shedding question yesterday, and today you are helping someone. Ok, don't want this getting off topic (sorry lol). Any other questions?

On its back?, never seen that in 12+ years, even the few leos I have lost, wernt on their back when I found them dead :(. When shedding, they will rub their backs,sides,etc.. on hides etc..

he was acting like a dog that has fleas rubbing against things and looking uncomfortable. this morning he was bright colored and relaxed again. He is not a fan of being handeled. I didn't see anything around his eyes, feet or tail. I look more closely tonight.:main_thumbsup:
