I'm still itching for a Canon DSLR, but I'm not ready to drop money on one just yet. Here are a few random photos from my PowerShot.

You guys take some awesome pics. I have a Canon 300D and I still haven't figured out how to make it take decent pictures! I need lessons. *hint hint, Robin*

Excellent photos Ryan!

Robin, that Hogla must've set you back a pretty penny! :p

I was like damn medium format cameras are expensive, but then I Google Hogla... That thing is sweet!

Please scan some prints when you get used to it.

Hey Robin, here's a link to all of the Canon DSLR's on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2070070012+50001213+1063107629&C

I've read a lot good stuff about the 30D, but Digital Rebels are reviewed a tad more, mainly because they've been around longer. I have $1000 bucks to pay on my Newegg preferred account yet...I upgraded my PC not long ago. I'm wondering if I still get 6 months interest free on a second purchase, or if it's only the initial purchase. I would buy a camera if I had 6mo interest free to pay it off. I need to look into it.

Could you let me know if any of the 30Ds with the lenses...are macro lenses. I don't think I would want anything other than a macro lense, I'm not a big zoom guy.

I'm new to the whole DSLR stuff, but I'm pretty savvy with tech stuff and a whiz in photoshop. I'm sure I'll catch on easily. I'm not sure when or what I want just yet, so any help is appreciated.

ryan go for the XT. the 30D you are paying for does not include a lens, only the body. lenses are expensive. none of the cameras will come with a macro lens, the XT comes with a kit lens 18-55 and has a macro setting. for now that will do. to get a good macro lens it's gonna at least set you back $1000+ just for the lens

Lomo and Hasselblad are cool too, Lomo aren't so expensive but the Hasselblad are insanely expensive but very very cool cameras. the next camera i want is a Lomo fisheye :D

Well, you have the XT and you take some awesome photos. Are you able to take some great shots with the stock lense it comes with...or are you using different lenses? I think I can swing $620 for an XT.

Also, you'll be a great help if we have the same cam...hopefully I won't need to bug you too much, just at first.

Sigma are good lenses. just make sure and do your homework on lenses before buying one. you are going to get quality glass from canon and sigma. i have heard some people talk about tameron. fred mirandas is a good place to find good info and also sometimes they have some killer prices on used stuff in their for sale section.

Robin is right, the XT is likely a better camera. Although, If I were personally doing it, I would get the XTi to get the improved autofocus system (the same they use in the 30D), the extra megapixels (which will help crop shots later), the larger screen, and the dust removal system. For the small amount of price difference it sounds like a large upgrade.

The Tamron 28-75 Xr Di Aspherical (B&H - $379) is a great lens for fairly cheap that gets some great pictures and competes with Canon L glass. I know they don't have the manufacturing abilities of Canon, so it may take a few copies before you get a really good one. The Canon 100mm Macro (B&H - $469) is also great for shots since you can stay a little further away (particularly around the skittish animals). The kit lens really is pretty decent (it's the same lens that you can get with the XT, XTi, 30D), although it's not great wide open (at least mine wasn't), stop it down a bit and you can get some really sharp pictures from it. There are some Sigma and Tamron lenses that can surpass canons, and there are some that have no chance. It really depends on the particular model, so make sure (like Robin says) to do your research on the lens. It doesn't matter what your camera can record if through crappy glass in front of it. fredmiranda.com is a great place to view the reviews and get answers, as well as the buy/sell forum.

Also, be aware that when I bought my 20D, Newegg was NOT an authorized dealer of Canon, so if there are rebates they usually don't qualify. I ended up buying from Amazon (it's cheaper anyway and free shipping), and Canon confirmed that the rebate would be valid.

Great images Ryan and Ronin!

This thread has some great info!!

The XTi is a very nice camera and the previous model(XT) is still a great camera too. The 30D needs more editing to the images(compared to XT/XTi) to get quality, but can achieve more in the right hands(Ryan knows PS well).
Most users will be much happier with the XT/XTi over a 30D due to more in camera sharpening and lower cost.
