The mom and pop store where i buy my supplies told me they wont be getting any superworms now for a while because the mealworm problem has now also become a superworm problem now!

I really hope this is not unfolding, i hope they dont know what they are talking about.

Has anyone else heard this?

No, but I'm sure there are a lot of places online to buy superworms. I can give you the name of the place I use in PM if you want.

I thought the problem wasn't happening anymore, I have notices a lot more petsmarts carrying small mealworms.

Yeah, the problem is almost over, superworms should be readily available here, as i don't believe there was ever a shortage of them.

This whole mealie scare has got us turning to building a roach colony soon... Ick... I get chills just writing it... but it seems necessary, and giving me the creeps seems minor in comparison to the chance of passing something to one of my geckos.

Some people also think that the mealworm problem is due to chemicals or something getting into the feed and contaminating the worms which in turn is contaminating the breeder geckos and casuing some of the breeders who normaly have good seasons to have horrible breeding seasons with lots of infertile eggs or deformities.

Amyzon, I have been thinking of doing a roach colony also and it kinds of freaks me out to think about all those roaches living in my house. lol

roaches are fantastic mine are in the garage you don't even notice them. I just throw in some food and water crystals every few days and they're multiplying constantly :)

They just creep me out. :) They're still roaches. Why couldn't they just call them beetles?

I had a MAJOR bug phobia until I got geckos. I actually have lobster roaches now. I keep alot of vasoline at the top of their tub and they are easy to take care of. I won't handle them. I use feeding tongs to get them out and pinch their heads so they don't get out of the gecko tanks but overall it's not as horrible having them as I thought it would be.

Well that makes me feel a little better. I'm glad the species we're getting can't fly or climb. No roach escapes, God, no. roach. escapes.
