Something seriously wrong with my gecko

I just noticed this evening after 9, so the vet was closed, that there is this large dark area on my geckos chest.

Back story:

I've taken this gecko to the vet a couple months ago because her stool was pretty runny and smelly and it turned out that she and her other female cage mate had pinworms. So they both started on a pancur regiment to cure this but because of the pinworms both of them had noticeably lost a lot of weight from their tails. After the a few weeks and the first round of Panacur they still had pinworms so I started round 2 of the Panacur. After the second round Savannah, the other mentioned female cage mate, seemed to bounce back and started eating again in small amounts but Dizzy, the one with the dark area, still was barely eating. Both of their stools though seemed to harden back up for the most part, still a little mucusy but not nearly as bad as before. I'm also thinking now that maybe during this time they might have been ovulating which could maybe explain the hunger strike after the pinworms cleared up? (This is my first year owning geckos and both of them are about 1.5 years old)

Present Day:

So this past week has been very exciting because both geckos just all of a sudden started eating like champs again eating crickets, mealworms, superworms, butterworms and the odd wax worm for good measure. My wife and I were thrilled because we thought they both have finally pulled through. It had been a long couple months hand feeding them Repti Aid to try and keep their weight on........Until this evening for Dizzy......She's barely moving, and I actually heard her scream a couple times and shake her head violently in obvious discomfort.....

Sorry for the long winded thread but I'm trying to give as much info as possible. I've never heard my geckos make noise before let alone scream.

Cage temps & set up:

mid 90's hot side, low 80's cool side, substrate is tile, moist hide is forest moss, water dish and calcium dish also inside.

I'll be taking her to the vet tomorrow morning but I'm curious if any one has seen this before or have any ideas for tonight.

Could she have possibly over-eaten and has a tummy ache? When lizards haven't eaten much in some time they can get very excited and gorge themselves. We have to be careful to limit their intake and let them build back up to a healthy appetite so their system can properly digest. Does your setup have an under tank heater? A shallow warm soak might give her some comfort but only if she keeps her head up or she could drown if she's that lethargic. Hope she does okay.

It looks like all the vets in my area are either on sick leave or not working this weekend so hopefully she holds out till Monday.

I do have a uth in her original enclosure but I now have her separated into a tub on my rack that is also heated from below by heat tape. I've tried soaking her a couple times times now and after the first one a yellow ooze and a little bit of urate came out while I was holding her. I don't think she is impacted though but I could be wrong. I'm going to keep periodically soaking her over the weekend to see if there is any change.

Well it looks like I'll be going for a necropsy on Monday. She quietly passed this evening. It looks like the dark area in her chest had gotten worse as well. To me it almost looks like what I would expect internal bleeding to look like but I'll find out later I guess.

My first gecko loss. Not too sure what to think right now. I'm hoping it not something I did terribly wrong. My other geckos all seem healthy and happy...?

Aw, man.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Let us know what the results of the necropsy are, if you have it in you to talk about it.

Had the necropsy done today. It turns out one of her ovaries started to hemorrhage which is what the dark mass was in her chest. She basically bleed out. It was caused possibly by some ovulating complication or yolk trapped in her ovary or something like that which is what was explained to me. Not really much that could have been done ultimately but at least now I know what caused the death which is nice.

Ohhh poor girl :( I never thought of lizards having such "female problems". You did take very good care of her, nothing could have been done to save her. She knew she was loved. I'm very sorry for your loss.

This thread helped me a lot too. I recently had a gecko pass who also had that dark mass. She looked almost exactly like your gecko did. In a kinda sick way, I am glad to know that it was something that I couldn't have really saved her from, and that it probably wasn't caused by the care they receive. Thanks for the update
