We have this really FAT cat that gets her excercise by trying to attack the geckos in the lower tubs. Well, awhile ago she figured out how to open the tubs, after about 8 escapees later, I started taping the tubs closed so she couldn't open them. Well, the tape was starting to wear off a bit and she hasn't been trying to open them...well, apparently I was wrong about that. She decided to have a rondesvous in the gecko room...she opened the tub containing our best RAPTOR female...and now she's gone. This is third time she's escaped. The first two times I found her in the same place. I will check there in a few hours once the daylight comes back up. :main_angry:

Oh wow, I feel for you because we have six cats and they drive us absolutely insane at times! I am so sorry to hear about your RAPTOR, I hope that you find her in her "regular" place!!! Good luck!

Thanks all, unfortuately, there is no way to keep her out. We keep our geckos in the what would be formal dining room and it has no doors. We are going to look for something to try and keep her out of there...this is really getting old. Matt's moving into an appartment soon and taking the leos so I won't have to worry about psycho eating them.

Haha, I wish, but it's my brother's cat and we've had her for about 8 years now. The one thing she does that is really aggrivatting is if you tell at her to get out of the room, she looks at you and meows defiantly as she runs away. She likes to knock glasses off the tables and watch them break and then she does that meow and runs away with her fat swinging back and forth. She's also climbed the Christmas tree, constantly escapes from the house, and tries to beat up the poor dog. After she does something bad, she's got to make that stupid meow.

This sounds very very familiar. Any chance your cat is related to mine?

There is a spray that you can buy from the pet store called keep off...its mainly made for furniture, beds things of that nature that you dont want your animals on. I bet you could spray that on the carpet or if it tile put a rug there and spray it so she wont bother it. I dont know any other solution except maybe a low power shock collar thats made for a small dog. Cats are so sneaky.. right?

the spray ould work probably...unless it has any type of mint in it. lol. Because the cat gets high off of mint of any sort. I wouldn't use a shock collar. I would be afraid since she is so overweight.

I did mean the shock collar comment more as a joke. My dog has an issue with stealing items that aren't his. So we bought the spray "The Bitter End" to deter him from stealing. Well it didn't help, he actually likes the sour taste. Our dog trainer said the next step would be like the Binaca mouth spray or Tabasco sauce. I putting $20 down that says he'll like both. :D

So just be prepared Matt and Mallorie incase the spray doesn't work.

Uh oh. I sure hope you find your RAPTOR, Mallory. :(

We used to keep our leos in our bedroom, and the cats would CONSTANTLY try to get them. One of them finally figured out how to open the tubs!!! We finally built the gecko room in our garage, where no cats are allowed. My son has even posted signs for the cats to "read" saying as much. ;)

The keep off spray is not like the bitter apple spray...its not meant for them to taste or eat like the bitter apple. It is strictly a deterent... I am not sure what is in it but I used to work in a petstore and many of our customers swore by it.

Hope you find your female soon, cats will be cats.

Couldn't have said it any better.. We lost a gecko to a cat attack (she never recovered from losing her tail, the stress was too great). Of course at first I was furiated with the cat, I even threw it outside and never wanted to see it again (that was my very first leopard gecko that I had for 4 years). The cat came back and whined at the door a few hours later, and we let her back in. No matter how much it hurts to have a dead gecko from another beloved pet, she was just following her basic feline instincts, and I regret ever throwing her outside

Thanks all! The good thing is is that Matt moves in three weeks so they will all be out of my parents house and into an apartment free of cats (for now ;) ) and they will be in a room that has a door.

Still no signs of her but I will let you all know. I have had pretty good luck with finding all of our escapees.

The spray does sound very interesting though....she likes to get on tables and stuff so it may be good for that.

I know cats will be cats and I do love her and my other cat Cookie (the sweatheart kitty) and our outdoor cat, Tang. But it's just the fact that she does crap like this all the time.

I know, stuff like that gets really old, really quick!! One of our other cats enjoys spending his time urinating all over our apartment, so that's always fun too!
