so when i buy my mealworms from the petstore and they come in that little platic tupperware container, is the bedding they come in good for gutloading?

in other words, as long as i provide fresh fruit to em, can i assume they are properly gutloaded?

Don't be too sure. The bedding material I get when I order from Reptile Food is the same stuff the keep them in at the show. Reptile food actually sells the mealworm gutload/bedding and it works great for me........ if it is wood shavings you should be able to smell it.

I could easily see that being true for a website like that. But I doubt pet stores do. The mealies I get from Petco are extremely skinny. I usually buy them a week in advance so I can gutload them properly. They plump up real nice after a feeding or two or good gutload.

I get my mealies locally and timberline is the company that they get the mealies from. They are in plastic tubs and the stuff in it is little wood chips I believe, never look that closely lol. They go so quick I dont really need to worry about food for them, their the food lol.

I make my own mealworm bedding, but as far as pet store beddings in the worms it's whatever that company uses and 9 times out of 10 it's their own gutload which is wheat bran or whatever they market I have never came across any that were on wood shavings.

Yea I have never run across wood shaving, most of it is some type of wheat product...usually oat I think.

Like I said, It is wheat. I have an unlimited supply of it if you are in need of some cheap bedding. The reason they are so skinny is because they are kept in the fridge.
