Stuck Shed on Nose

Hey, has anyone ever had a gecko have some leftover shed stuck on his/her nose? One of mine is having this problem and I don't know why! I keep her moist hide moist and she has plenty of things to rub on. I've tried dripping little drops of water on her nose with my finger and gently rubbing it. She's gotten a bit more off since then, but there's still a bit left right above her nostrils. Anyone have a tip for me to help her out? Thanks!

I have one girl who had this problem for a while, but has since worked itself out I guess. I had to help her out constantly with each shed because it would get stuck all on her nose/mouth area, as well as her toes.

Try soaking her in a little container of warm water that is only maybe 1/2 inch high to get her body moist with humidity, then get a Qtip wet and gently rub her nose to try and get the stuck skin off. It may take a while if it's been on there for a few days...so be patient, but try to get it all off as soon as you can as it can cause problems if left on her for too long.

If that doesn't work then you may want to try using some Zilla brand Shed-Ease. I have found this to work well with helping to get stuck shed off. You use it the same as you would warm water, as you mix it with water and soak the gecko in it for a little while to soften the skin and helps it come off a bit easier...but you may find it works just as well as plain water would.

Just keep at it until you get it all off, and then keep an eye on her each shed to make sure she is getting it all off...if not you will just have to help her out until the "problem" takes care of itself as it did for my gecko, or you may just have to help her forever...

Hope that helped :).

Thanks, Kristin! I'll try the Q-Tip and soaking idea tomorrow. One question, though: How long should I soak her?

Soak her for maybe 10 minutes or so...I really can't remember how long I would soak my girl when she had that problem...but I just tried to keep her moist for a while and kept working at removing the skin until I got it all. Actually what I did was soak her for 5-10 minutes and then I would start using the qtip while she was still in the water, so she likely was in there for a good while as it took a while to get it all off. I guess I'm just trying to say that it helps to keep the humidity high while doing it, so keep her in the water if she can stand it, while you remove the skin. If she doesn't like it then take her out and use the qtip.

Hope that made sense, lol!

i personally couldnt keep my little gecko in the water, she kept jumping out and it was her first shed and had some left over on her head and toe and i knew not to leave it, so she just climbed right on my arm and stayed and let me help her, i just dampened the qtip and rubed it till it started sliding off, id use tweezers to pull it just a little, than use the q-tip again and everything was fine, wasnt to hard at all, just took time. : )

Is it normal for them to scream when helping them get shed off of them?

Helping to shed

Hard to tell what normal for each gecko is, but I would make sure you are giving enough time to moisten the area well enough.
.

A suggestion on assistance.....Need to have the housing room but I supplied a larger watering hole for one that "Dunks" his head all the way under the water when he sheds.....Take care. HJ

Yesterday one of my leos had the same problem. I too keep his humid hide moist when he is about to shed. It never really helps. I have no clue why. I put him in a tall bowl, and dumped some luke warm water on his nose where the shed was. After a while of rubbing gently and doing the same thing with the water, it came off.

It just takes time.
