How long does it take before superworms become whatever type of insect they are? I've had 3 superworms for about 4 weeks they keep shedding their outer layer and growing. My leo arabesque won't eat them so I just keep feeding and watering them.

in my thoughts
you need to separate them in their own separate container with out food. The stress causes them to pupate then turn into a beetle. Some may die, but that is the way to do it.

Supers are pretty big so how big is the beetle they turn into? Anyone got any pictures? Just curious.

I don't have pictures, but a few years ago some supers got out and around my house. When the beetles started appearing they were about 1"-2" long and very nasty looking.

Sooo gross! I might toss'em out since arabesque won't eat them.
Thanks for the info...

I have another feeder question. I removed 4 crickets from his tank that I put in last night/this morning because I put too many into his tank. Well I put them in a separate container w/o gut load because I was going to feed them to him tonight. Well, I went to get them and three of them were on top of one of the crickets so I thumped the container to startle them apart, come to find out they were eating the cricket! It was alive as little as two hrs ago. Can I feed him canabalized crickets? I might throw them out too.

crickets: if they're moving, you can feed them. If not, they probably won't eat them.

superworms: I wish you lived close to me because I have some leos (and a beardie) that absolutely adore them. I got 500 for $20 last month from someone on craigslist and am almost out of them.

I have some pictures of the superworm beetle in a post I did a fews weeks ago

here is a link http://www.geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=32199

Superworms can stay in the worm stage for up to almost a year unless stressed in which then they turn into a pupa. Thats is one of their perks in my opinion.

The superworm beetle isnt so bad...it is like a mealworm beetle only on steriods. :D

Thanks for the links w/ the pics. They're still grooosss!!LOL! Can leos eat the superworm beetles or are they too big?

I have never attempted superworm beetles only because I tried mealworm beetles for food during the mealworm shortage and none of my geckos would touch them so I assume they wouldn't eat superworm beetles either. But I mean alot of ppl feed their geckos roaches so Im not sure what the difference would be.

leos can eat super beetles... but just like mealies, the beetles carry little to no nutrisonal value as they do not eat in the pupae stage...
