Right now I have 42' of heat tape tacked down.I 've used tacks along the clear edge of the tape. Its kind inpractical.I dont want to use duct tape since it'll leave a mess.Any suggestion on what I can use?

depends on the surface i would guess. on my plastic racks ive actually been using painters tape just along the edges. doesn't leave any residue if you need to remove it, and hasn't peeled from the heat being so close. on the wooden rack im using back heat for now, but when i run it for belly heat i'll probably try the painters tape first and see how that goes

Aluminum Foil tape. Got to Home Depot(or any hardware store, really), go to the ducting/plumbing section, and you'll find it there. It conducts heat well and has a smooth surface for tub sliding. I use it in all my Flexwatt applications.
