Have any of you guys noticed tail loss more common on crested geckos than leopard geckos.

I had my male with my females, and the male is now tailless.

I've never had this problem with leos, but of my 3 crested geckos 2 are without tail.

You seem to see more pictures of cresties without tails. Also at the shows you almost never see a tail missing from a leo but you see a lot of missing tails from the cresteds. Maybe its easier for them to lose their tails??

in the wild crested geckos are almost never seen with tails.

Is it possible that Cresteds are housed together more often than Leos and that's what contributes to the tail loss? It's a pain in the you know what to house Crested babies each in their own Critter Keeper but we do and we've never lost a tail. We house our Leos individually as well and haven't experienced a tail loss with them either.

I house individually, as well. These guys are just together for breeding. They'll be separated soon. I just thought it odd that he dropped his tail like that. I've never had problems with leopard geckos dropping their tails, much less while being housed together for mating.

I don't have a problem with it. I think they're cute without tails, but I'm just curious if anyone has noticed that they lose their tails a lot easier than otehr species.

maybe since leos have been kept in captivity longer they've become "domesticated" moreso than other species and aren't as easily startled.

then again maybe cresties are just nippy and like to grab each others' tails more than leos do...

You know what. I didn't even think about the length of captivitiy. Hm..

Anyone else have thoughts or opinions about it.
