Hey nats. I myself have no fears or problem with takeing my leos out of their cages. I only let them roam on my bed when I'm near them. I sometimes put a fence-type (playpen made for small rodents) around the edges of the bed. That keeps them safe without me haveing to worry. I would suggest buying a small animal playpen like I have done. You can find them at walmart in the small pet isle. It's around $10. Oh, and the pen is multi colored.! Hope I helped.

Then how do you collect them to put them back?
Do you pick them up and carry them?
That's what I am afraid to do, for fear they will jump!

I carry mine around with no problems at all, even though I don't do it that often. My male used to be kamikaze but he's settled down now. I let them climb on me while I'm at the computer sometimes, they sit and watch the screen or climb halfway up my back where they know I cant reach and I have to get someone to get them for me :main_rolleyes:

If they do fall its unlikely they'll be injured. The male has fallen about 3 feet a few times jumping for it and he just sits on the floor with a big grin on his face. Since he's reached adulthood he seems to have wizened up. ;)

I put one hand under the leos belly, then the other hand over his back and head (genty but firm enough so he can't escape your hands). Then just simply put the leo into it's cage. That easy. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, you cou;d always get a cup and gently push your leo into the cup. And tah-dah! Why are you so "scared" or dropping you leo? How old is your leo? And, your welcome. :main_thumbsup:

I'm really more affraid that they will take off and run away more then
dropping.

If/ when you drop a leo, it's a traumatic experience for sure... for the owner. The geckos tend to pause for a bit and get their bearings and then start wandering off. Usually to the nearest cave-like place.

Don't worry about picking them up. It will be fine. My preferred method is pointer finger in front of the front legs, middle fingers under belly with palm and/or pinky finger having their little back feet on it. Just sort of let them lay there- most geckos will sit like that really happily (provided you've tamed them down enough they don't bark and run off in panic if you touch them or something.) I have my geckos crawl on me and my desk or couch or what have you all the time. They seem to enjoy exploring, though you have to pay attention that they don't explore their way into getting lost (which if you pay attention won't happen, and mine never have gotten far). The roommate's cat has an rather intense interest, so I'm more careful now than I was when they were the only pets.

Just don't squeeze and DON'T grab the tails, and you (and your geckos) be fine. Relax and enjoy! :main_thumbsup:

this has always been my experience :main_yes: it's scary, and i always panic a little bit when she hits the ground and just lays there, but she gets up and wanders off a few seconds later everytime. what can i say, she thinks she can fly! i hold her in my hand palm up, close to my belly. i hold my other hand up like a wall along the side of her. it usually works pretty well :)

I touch my leo and occasionally pick him up (in the tank), but I usually never let him out just to exercise. I have the same phobia that he might run off or fall, also because I keep his tank on my dresser, which is 6 feet off of the ground! I only take him out to clean the tank, and when I do I hold him lightly around his belly and let his legs rest on my other hand. I've taken him out before though, just out of curiosity, and he just walked around inquisitively like he usually does! Lol... So, I don't think it's a problem to take your leo out. If you're worried, you can put a clear, deep, tupperware, tub-like container with some cushioning on the bottom and hold him in there, so if he falls it won't hurt him.

Yeah my female snow (Newpy) is up high on a dresser too.
When I take her out, I let her crawl into the toothpaste box, put my hand
over the opening, and move her that way. No possibilty of a fall that way!
But than, if I put her (toothpaste box and all) on my bed, how am I going to
get her back in again?
