OMG I've been trying a lot of new things lately and decided to order some supers to feed while my roaches settle in and start breeding. I was thinking I should get some silkies but they are REALLY expensive so I decided on getting some superworms instead. I told myself I would NEVER get supers because of their bad rep. but I said the same about roaches and now I have 117 of them in my closet eating everything!

Anyway I ordered 250 superworms from sunshineworms.com ( i believe that's the name) and was a little freaked out to open the bag because I heard them moving through the paper that was placed in the bag plus I didn't know where to put them exactly. Anyway I just opened the bag and... OMG THESE THINGS ARE HUGE!!!.. I swear they are stalking me and I'm terrified to get bitten because these things look like the pitbulls of the worm world :main_laugh:

Any advice for me thats new to superworms!? Because I'm about to take the bag and dump it in the incinerator, they're creeper then my dubias.

Hehe... They are nasty little beasies, aren't they?

Tip 1- Do not put them in anything made of styrofoam or thin plastic. They WILL chew their way out. Do not overfill container you put them in. They form tight alliances and plot escapes.

Tip 2- TWEEZERS or FEEDING TONGS! (Did I mention they're nasty?)

Tip 3- Use some oatmeal as a burrowing substrate and toss in some orange peels, apple pieces, veggie slices, strawberries, chihuahuas, neighbor kids, whatever, to keep them occupied (and not try to figure out how to get out)

My super snow picky eater ate 2 of them when she was just 11 grams. Start with feeding tongs or tweezers until you get up enough courage to pick them up. When you do pick them up, hold them behind their heads because they can nip you.

Ryan deals with the worms. I deal with the crickets. Each of us thinks the other has the worse bug. Adults should have no problems eating supers. Many of our leos love them. We store ours in a rubbermaid container with gutload and oatmeal. We put a couple potatoes in some kidney dishes for a water source. We found that works better because sometimes the potatoes will make the oats start to smell funky. I agree with getting tongs if they gross you out too much.

I have some old eyebrow tweezers that I use for my tweezers (they're really cheap so they work) and decided to keep feeding her because she hasn't really eaten in a few days. Anyway she's eaten like 4 I believe. And she took one of them by the head and juice squirted all over, lol. Then she spit it out and started licking it and poking it with her nose and foot. She poked it soo much that it rolled over and hurried up an ate it.

The Supers seem to be a success.. One escaped in her tank and now I'm on the hunt for it unless she eats it before. I'm happy now even though they're creepy looking worms.

As others have suggested, I highly recommend that you use tweezers when feeding supers, they do BITE...and I mean bite, I stupidly hand fed supers one time and got a surprise. It didn't hurt...it's just that fact that it bit me. Nasty things those supers. Oh yeah, they also pee on ya if you squeeze 'em too hard. Delightful. :D

Yup, feeding tongs are my best friend. LMAO! I remember when I saw them, I almost fainted. They are huge and nasty.... actually they are nasties, nastier cousin fred. >.< I still do not like them and refuse to hold them. I will be getting some dubia soon... so hopefully Ares will cut down on supers when I get the roaches. Lmao! That way I won't have to buy as much of them.

Also, I have heard of supers biting leos.. >.> That scares me. Luckily Ares has a game plan for eating them. Go for the head!!!

I use some tweezers that I just had in my bathroom. I order 250 about every month and I just put mine in a plastic shoebox and throw some food in. No need for substrate if they are already about 2". no reason to make it harder to find the little buggers. I just hate when you grab them with the tweezers and the sqwirm and wiggle so much you can't hold on to them.

The supers and me are actually friends now, lol.

I had them in the bowl/tub thing from sterilite and I was freaking that someone would knock it over so I decided to get a rubbermaid tub with a lid and poke some holes in it. I have a very thin layer of oatmeal and some potatos to munch on. They seem to enjoy it.

They are a PAIN IN THE BEHIND when picking them up with tweezers since they move around so much. And when I tried to get the one that was out and about in the tank it was grabbing on to the freaking paper towel. All is good so far. They might be nasty but I like them :) they're size is amazing. I freaked my mom out this morning because I left them on the stove (we have no gas so its not working anyway) and she saw them and started screaming. I did not imagine them to be that big but the important thing is that Lana enjoys them and last night she told me she did. So as long as she likes them I'll keep feeding them :)

I recently bought some supers to see if Dex liked them (which he did, I was amazed at how quickly he wolfed them down). I fed them by hand, without tongs, and I could not get one to bite me. I even held it's head at different parts of my hand, poked and prodded at it, and still no bites.
