Need some temp controller links please. Looking and there are so many temp controllers, and SOOO many price ranges 20-240!? Would love to know what to get, and what people are using for there own tanks.

Thanks Neill

Please forgive me if this is a crazy question, but I have no clue about thermostats. The only ones I ever saw were the ones from walmart for home heating/cooling systems. What is the difference in those and reptile thermostats? Thanks in advance.

If you can buy something from the Home Improvement stores that do the same thing as a reptile-specific item, it makes sense to go with the Home Improvement. So, for example, I think a reptile rheostat at the pet store is going to cost more than the lamp dimmer from Home Depot. As far as I know, though, the thermostats at the Home Improvement stores are the kind you attach to your wall and wire in to your home heating system (I may be wrong; I haven't checked in awhile). I don't think this would work with a UTH.

For thermostats: I regulate my tanks with Alife or ESU (I think it's the same thing) which cost around $30. They have been fine, although I'm debating whether I need them, since the tile seems to regulate the temp nicely.

For hobovator: the best price I found 4 years ago on a proportional thermostat was from Big Apple Herp. I have to admit that I'm still getting fluctuations of 2+ degrees even with the proportional thermostat and have not found a solution to that yet except to move to San Francisco (where maybe the ambient temps are more consistent).

I bought a plug in lamp dimmer from walmart and hooked my uth up to it and it works very well, you just have to monitor it occasionally and adjust it as necessary. I'll probably still end up getting a thermostat though so I wont have to monitor it as much.
