its brown now but could it be line bred to black? its like the exact opposite of the SHT. IMO I think they are breathtaking and awsome. Its different, somthing we havent seen alot of...somthing the leo world desperatly needs right now.

Idk bro... We all remeber how now brown cows but these are really dark. Not to mention fresh blood. Judging by several other pics of various morphs and comparison photos & w/ a little magic these geckos are really dark. I will go with velvety brown :) and genetics again have me in a whirl wind but either way I can't wait to put some bell albino in them. :)

Explain how brown can be linbred to become black??? Black is not even a color... Brown is a combo of colors...

It is not the exact opposite of SHTs... There is a difference, a huge one...
The tangerine in SHTs is coloration that already existed in leos as a base color... The black in leos is not a base color, they are a shade that is produced by special cells in spacific areas... The only way you will see black that covers an entire leo is if the genetics are defective enough (most commonly an actual recessive melanistic gene) to cause all the cells in the skin to produce black melanin... This is not something that will ever be achieved through line/selective breeding... Especially if that animal is just brown...

I think the pearls (cant call then black) will have their place in the hobby, just not in my collection...
I will wait for a true melanistic and buy that instead of trying to make a brown animal dark brown...
They are very far from being the "holy grail" of leo morphs and I for one am not very impressed... I am still waiting for natural light photos... You will see seemingly dark animals become much lighter and far less impressive at the speed of a shutter... Thats why there are no pics in natural light...

I think black is actually the base of every gecko. I don't think all those spots on my little guys and gals are really really dark brown.

Until further proof is given i will not sit here say yes or no if this is the real deal of melanistic geckos. But i do believe that with some more work they could prove all the "haters" wrong.

Based on numbers it's literaly impossible to say if this is a co-dom, dom, or recessive gene. Based on a scale of 100 geckos you can give a percentage on what your findings were. But that would take at minimum 5 years to do the proper work. Things will get worked out in time.

Thanks,

~Ryan

I know they are only offering females so if anyone here had the opportunity to get a female what would be the male that you would "go for the glory" with one of these? Just wondering, I am sure there is no wrong answer.

Being a future art student.. I just have to say this, in terms of color..

It's true that brown is a mixture of several colors.. But so is black. In fact, black is a mixture of ALL colors.

If this rule applies to pigments.. I don't know. But I would assume so.

With light and things that produce light (forms of luminescence) the mixture of all color is white.

With pigments such as paints and things that reflect and absorb light (including skin), the mixture of all colors is black.

Not sure if that helps clear anything up, because it doesn't really prove much as of now...but hey. Just thought I'd add?
