I use tap water with no issues. I drink it as well. Still not a bad idea to use filtered water. Maybe, take into consideration where you live also and possible issues in the water like ladygecko's arsenic issue.

I use filtered water. The tap water here is awful. One day 24 years ago I left a glass filled with the tap and a lid on it to keep dust and bugs out to see what was in it. I woke up the next day and found white stuff with black pieces at the bottom ( calcium, lime and rust deposits), even to this day 2012 same issues and no improvement. I live in Key West and the tap we get is from Florida city (100 miles away) it is pumped down here (pipe line).
I use filtered water only for all my pets. If i don't drink it why should they.

We have well water so no nasty chemicals. We have a whole house filter to take care of the heavy metals ect. That could be in it. (We have never had issues however)

For my fish tanks, I use straight tap water with a dechlorinating solution because I don't want to wait. But if you want to air it out, it only takes a day. The reason chlorine is bad for fish is because of their gills. Chlorine binds with their gills and prevents the gills from obsorbing oxygen properly. You, I, and geckos don't have gills. :D Also, tap water may have the wrong pH or may have too much alkaline in some states. But stuff like this is more important to plants and fish.

Even though the quality varies depending on where you live, tap water is designed to be safe to drink. I happen to live near Boston, which has above than average in terms of quality. I still use Brita filter though. I find that the filtered water tastes better. So all my pets and I drink filtered tap water.

Cloramine takes up to a week, and a lot of places use this instead of chlroine
